Have you ever thought about hiring a personal trainer to train you?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2020 06:02 AM PDT

    Hi everybody,

In the last weeks, I read many stories of people achieving great results in this community (Great work everybody!)

I found a lot of inspiration from the stories and opinions of every one of you who was able to reach a level I am aiming to. I also found extremely helpful advises in the comments who completely changed my perspective for my workouts.

I was wondering what is like having a personal trainer, someone who acts as a mentor, who designs your workouts to optimize for your personal goals. Especially during these times, I believe that coaching online too is or may become an interesting opportunity for many people.

Have you ever hired a personal trainer? How helpful do you think it is? How does an online or in-person coaching personal trainer manage his clients? Do they keep track of your workouts and progress in some ways? How do they prepare and send you your personal workout session?

Thanks everyone again for the inspirational stories!

Chloe Ting's 2 week challenge: is it detrimental to muscles because of lack of resting time?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 08:37 PM PDT

I did 2 ab workouts today and yesterday. My abs are super sore that it hurts to sneeze or sit up.

I'm torn between finishing the challenge or letting my muscles heal (taking 2 days off.) Thoughts?

How do I pick up speed?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2020 05:51 AM PDT

I was wondering this, there were a few instances recently where I tried to pick up speed but I was limited by my physical prowess: When I was wrestling, sprinting and boxing.

What are some good ways to build up speed? I've tried running longer and jump roping but that seems to just increase my endurance.

Is the program "Bodyweight Burn" by Adam Steer a legit program, or another scam?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 08:08 PM PDT

Im very conflicted on getting something like this, since every rating it has doesnt go below a 4, and i cant find any other reviews of it on youtube, reddit, etc. If it had some kind of bad review i would be able to read it and see if it was bullshit, but the fact that its all around well positively reviewed makes me even more nervous. Anyone know if either, these are legit ratings that werent paid for by the program, or just have experience with it and can say its legit?

    Weighted carrying over to skills

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 08:26 PM PDT

So I've heard about the common idea around concurrent periodization, and weighted calisthenics carrying over to better skill strength.

That said, I'm curious about what moved carry over to what and so far I have this:

    • Heavy chins/pulls = front lever strength
    • Heavy dips = maltese strength (?)
    • Push-ups = planche strength (?)
    • ??? = Back lever strength
    • OHP/ Weighted deficit pike = HSPU strength, not as much balance

I have a couple other questions regarding programming and variations.

If I were to do any of these weighted variations on rings, would it increase the stability aspects of the moves (I.e. doing weighted deficit pike push-ups on rings will better strengthen the rotator cuff to handle an actual full handstand/HSPU, or gaining better strength for a PB planche if weighted PP push-ups are practiced on rings)? As well as this, do you personally find that rings are better loadrled heavy for strength work, loaded in the middle (6-10 rep scheme), or lighter for higher rep and volume work?

    TLDR:

    • Which weighted calisthenics basics (push-ups, pull-ups, dip, chins, pike push-ups, inverted rows, etc) carry over to what moves skillwise?
    • Do using rings for these weighted movements make your shoulders more stable for the skill itself or the ring counterparts, and does the ring stabilizstion demand carry over to shaker skills like handstand push-ups? (Another one I'm interested in is weighing RTO holds to build stability, would that work?)
    • Do you find rings are best suited for strength work (2-5 reps), skill work/statics, volume work (12-30), or in hybrid work (heavy "volume" in the 6-10 range)?

    Chest harness to add weight

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 11:52 PM PDT

Anyone have any experience with using a chest harness to hang weights close to the torso for push/pull exercises on rings? Something along the lines of a Petzl Voltige or Edeldrid Agent.

I'm using rings hung from my 8ft ceiling which means I'm nearly touching the floor in an L-sit position at the bottom of a pull-up which prohibits the use of a typical dip belt.

I've been using my closet as a pull up bar and 2 jugs of sand for weights. How can I optimize my workout in lockdown?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 11:50 PM PDT

    My main goals:

One Arm Pull Ups and One Arm Push Ups.

My issue with my workout currently is that the closet is using a shelf for a hand hold (flat surface relying on the grip of fingers on a board essentially). It makes it difficult to properly workout each exercise before my grip loosens (sweat or the shoes I use as a rubber grip slips a bit). As for push days I'm finding that I'm feeling the exercises less and less.

    What exercises should I replace/alter?

    My workout: https://imgur.com/u3Neel5

Additionally I also want to increase my shoulders roundness and size.

    I typically workout 3 - 4 times a week.

Push, Pull, Running, Core - I do one of the Push or Pull workouts and sometimes do core or run that day, or just Push/Pull then the next day Core + Running. I run uphill for sprints and do a lap around the neighborhood at a medium jog. For core I follow "Six Pack promise" in the appstore (without the equipment, just pure body weight stuff due to lack of gym)

Calisthenics Equipment in Order of Importance?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:17 PM PDT

I've been doing calisthenics for a while now and my progression started to stagnate. With the lock-down, I became pretty lazy doing anything. Coupled with the stagnation, I've become inconsistent in my routine for the past month or so.

I was thinking that maybe introducing a new element to my routine will help me gain the motivation to do it again, so I'm considering to buy something to add to my bare-bone calisthenics equipment (door pull-up bar, nothing else).

However, I'm still in high school and I bought things with the daily allowances I saved up. I haven't received any allowance since staying at home, and my savings only keep decreasing as time passes.

Considering my family's current economic condition, I can't ask them to buy the equipment I will be needing. So, I'm trying to figure out what to buy with what little money I have.

I would appreciate it if you guys can give me a list of calisthenics equipments sorted by the order of importance. I will try to scrape some money to buy the most important one I can afford.

    Calisthenics skills help

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 08:59 PM PDT

Been working out for about a year now, always been looking between weights and calisthenics and have tried both, I finally want to learn skills and focus on calisthenics, how should I go around doing this, I don't have enough money to buy a routine or any of that and have no idea how to workout along with learning skills, right now I want to learn the hand stand and front lever, but have no ideas how to incorporate that as well as still follow a workout routine. It's also hard for me to make my own routine without following one that's already made, I like to see what I have to do for the day and do it. If anyone can help or has suggestions that would help a lot.
