Just reached my first goal of losing 100lbs

I figured I would go ahead and make this post today as a gift to myself but, I finally lost my first 100lbs!

I've started losing weight at the beginning of July. To get where I am today, all I've been doing is CICO and walking.

I strictly eat 1500 calories and try to track my macros as much as I can which is usually 33% protein, carbs, and fat.

As far as my walking, I've been inconsistent unfortunately however, when I am in a groove, I will try to get 5 miles a day and do that 5 days of the week. I really need to get back into it but, I've been dealing with some personal issues that have set me back. HOWEVER, making this post has given me more motivation to keep on going.

I really want to thank all who contribute and help keep this community alive. I have gotten a lot help and support from this community and I can't express how grateful I am to be a part of it.

    Happy Holidays!

    Edit:

Thank you all so much for the kind words and the gold! You've really made my day!

    Edit 2:

Wow, I did not think that my post would blow up like it did. Really, thank you all SO MUCH for all the kind words. It was so nice to receive so many complements from you all (especially on Christmas Day).

Weight loss sabotage or just dumb?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2020 06:52 AM PST

    Edited to say:

Thank you for all of the feed back! I got some vauluable advice for the future. I certainly would not have assumed the worse if there relationship with this person didn't already have red flags. I hope you al have a blessed holiday, and keep crushing all those weight loss goals!

I have been working hard and eating healthy and lost 16lbs since the end of October.

Last night we were at a gathering for a pig roast. My friend (someone I'm friendly with, and our paths cross frequently) kept bringing up my weight loss and asking a lot of questions regarding how I did it, what I've been eating etc., I specifically said that I drink mainly water because she knows that I used to drink a lot of coke. Fast forward to when we are about to have dinner, and she's trying to convince me to try one of her diet sprites that she had bought. After going back and forth a little bit, I said that sure I would try it. She brought me over a glass of "diet sprite". I tried it and I said "wow that's not bad at all" and she made a big deal out of how it's the best diet drink she's ever found. About 30 minutes later she brings the sprite bottle to the table. I started looking at it because it was a special holiday sprite with a funny label. I didn't notice anything else until she said "oh yeah I guess it's not diet, sorry"

Like, seriously? There is no way that was an accident. Why do that?
I'm a non-combatant person, so I chose not to say anything, it wouldn't have solved anything anyway.

Anyway, that's my only frustration from changing my lifestyle and becoming healthy, some people don't cheer you on.

(NSV) I stuck with my diet through Christmas, even with my family taunting me about it and feel more motivated than ever!

    Posted: 26 Dec 2020 12:10 AM PST

I went vegan about a month and a half ago for my health (cheated quite a bit in the first couple of weeks so I don't count it so proudly).

It's been treating me well! I lost a bunch of weight at first, but then I quickly found myself back at ground 0 after constant holiday drinking and gorging myself at vegan restaurants.

    Recently though, something has changed.

I realised alcohol was the next thing I wanted to cut out, and really quickly after that I realised how much alcohol negatively effected my dieting. I found myself stuck in cycles of eating super well and then drinking my weight in beers - undoing all my progress. And then on top of that, allowing myself to eat anything I wanted the next day w abandon because 'im hungover and I deserve this.'

Then, I realised I explained away a lot of my awful eating habits under that foolish guise of self care. 'It's the weekend.' 'I never get to see this friend and we're going out to lunch.' 'It's Christmas!'

This Christmas, I ate glazed carrots and vegan sausages (festive but very low cal) while my family happily feasted on the traditional meats and cheeses. I was designated driver while they drank. It was glorious! I didn't need to give myself the old 'hey it's Christmas, you can eat whatever you want on Christmas!' Even though my family attempted several times to get me to eat their food. And it wasn't some teary eyed test of my willpower either! I simply did not have the desire to over indulge or cheat on my diet. Food (& alcohol) is no longer connected to happiness for me. I was just happy to be with them for Christmas and that's all I needed.

I'm not trying to tell anyone else to go vegan, as a disclaimer, but for me I think it's the first time I've been on a diet that has shifted the way I view food. I love food! I love cooking! But I do not view it as this sin to give into anymore. Even my junk food feels kind of healthy, and in a way that makes it way easier to eat in moderation because it's not this dirty thing I have to feel bad about (I've also been forced to get used to, and love 'healthy' foods that before I HATED like root vegetables and nuts) I hope everyone can find a diet that makes them feel this way, like this is TRULY what they could eat for their entire lives, not just in order to get down to a specific number.

Im really excited about this guys ! I think this could mean some big things for me.

I hope you all had great christmases!

Who's got two thumbs and definitely overate yesterday?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2020 08:21 PM PST

I did it, I messed up this Christmas.

I had planned my meals so meticulously for December 25th along with my keto diet, weighed out all my foods for breakfast and dinner, planned to have no potatoes, no toast with breakfast, all the rest and it was going to be great I wasnt going to go any more than 400 cal over my usual limit and 10g of carbs

Then, after smoking something I never usually do, the munchies hit me hard and I had over probably 4000 calories. After months of OMAD/2MAD my stomach ached and i got sick a few times, only to go back and eat more. My stomach is so sore from being stretched on all the crap I ate. I keep thinking "I messed up last night, I may aswell have some more chocolate today" and that thought is only making it all worse, but In my sober mind I refuse to bow to it.

I'm here to encourage you that today is another day, a new day. We are not defined by our mistakes and for me personally it doesn't how long we stay standing but by how quickly we stand again after falling down. Why bother waiting til new years to make life changes when you can change your life today.

Anyone else grow up thinking 4+ cans of soda/day was normal?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2020 12:44 PM PST

    M26, 6'4", SW: 345lbs, CW: 210lbs, GW: 180lbs

Anyone else grow up with people who drank soda all day?

We drank it all the time growing up, it was that or coffee.

My mom's boyfriend drinks mountain dew all day. He's slim but has a lot of health issues. The doctor recently said he has to stop eating the way he does. My mom thinks it's just impossible to make diet adjustments so she just shakes her head (classic her). He's got diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.

Her ex boyfriend constantly drank diet Pepsi, day in and day out. He had very poor health. He was a mean guy and to this day I don't drink diet Pepsi because of him.

I always thought this was normal. I started just drinking water and tea, and the change in how I feel was drastic, as well as my skin and everything.

It's just crazy what behaviors we are raised to think are normal when it comes to food and eating, when in fact they're really damaging.

Reminder to not mention a relatives weight gain this new year's celebration /(愒o愒)/~~

    Posted: 25 Dec 2020 08:36 AM PST

Eversince i was a young babe I had always loved food and would mainly eat if I were bored so I was a pretty chubby kid. But in a cute kind of chubby, like those kids who you'd just want to pinch their little puffy cheeks. However, my family left the US and moved to our parents' home country to live there.

I hated it and wasn't as active as I was in the US since I had left all of my friends there and new none of the neighborhood kids nor were my cousins the same age range as me. This resulted in me staying inside all day, thus my healthy tanned complexion had paled and my fat had gotten...fattier, so to speak, not in the "cute" way it did anymore.

Then I started attending taekwondo and lost weight and I didn't seem as heavy as before! Especially since I was considered pretty tall. On my 14th birthday my parents had invited our family over since my birthday is right before New Years so we decided to celebrate those together. One of my maternal uncles were there and he hadn't seen me for a year. When he saw me, he goes "Oh wow! You're thinner now! When you were small, you used to be thiiis fat!" (he widened his arms as he said that) then he hands me my gift and wishes me a happy birthday -_-. I should have felt happy, relieved to hear that, right? But all it did was make my self esteem go down even more for some reason.

Gained weight again, my teacher commented on it when the school year started, lost it, rinse and repeat.

Now I'm 17 and am trying to lose weight again through CICO and some light exercising o( ̄┰ ̄*)悞

Being weight loss shamed by parents

    Posted: 25 Dec 2020 02:01 PM PST

Some holiday fun... I've lost 20 pounds this year (I was overweight and changed my diet and exercise routine and I am much healthier now). In the past 24 hours I have been shamed by both my mother and father THREE TIMES for being "too thin" or telling me my butt is "nonexistent" now (it's not, I always have a big butt) and I just don't understand why anyone feels the need to comment on someone's weight like that. Both my parents are overweight and they say they don't mean it in a mean way, but my mom literally called me anorexic to my sister. Why are family members such haters???

Anxiety about family commenting on weight loss

    Posted: 25 Dec 2020 02:51 PM PST

    F/25/SW:301/CW:221/5'4"

Hello and merry Christmas! I'm sitting here with terrible anxiety because I'm about to go see my dad for a Christmas dinner. I have been overweight/obese my whole life and my dad (who has always been slim) has always made comments around being "concerned for my health". This year, I finally got my act together and have lost 80 lbs! I'm so proud of myself. I feel healthy, confident, and strong. But like I said, I'm getting the worst anxiety about seeing my dad and knowing the comments he'll make. Last time I FaceTimed him, he answered by saying "Jesus, you look half your size!" I KNOW he means well and it's supposed to be a compliment....but I just find it so, so embarrassing whenever he comments on how much weight I've lost or how different I look. I did it for myself and myself only, not because he told me too. I've only seen him a handful of times this year due to quarantine but also because I'm just very anxious as to what comments he'll make.

Rant over....guess I just need to type out all my anxieties and get this over with....but if anyone has any advice for acknowledging your weight loss and family members commenting on it I would appreciate it SO MUCH :)

Losing with Fasting not working? Frustration!

    Posted: 26 Dec 2020 01:28 AM PST

Hi guys, I'm super demotivated. 4 years ago I started CICO while being 250pounds. I lost 50pounds in a year and I was super happy about it - and Christmas time around I gained back some pounds because I binged. After that, slowly but steadily I've come back to 250 pounds. I knew I had to stop, but I just couldn't find back into CICO. I felt drained, exhausted and the counting is so tedious that I just couldn't do it anymore. Now I thought: At 250 pounds and 1,73 meters I've a calorie need of approximately 2500 the day. This means, if I do intermittent fasting - meaning, I fast from "going to bed" till next day "going to bed" (meaning: I stop eating monday when I go to bed, then I don't eat all of tuesday, and start eating wednesday morning). This should be approximately a calorie deficit of 2500 at least the day I didn't eat. So assuming I eat normal, meaning no sweet stuff, no deserts etc., there is no way that I am eating more than lets say 3000 cal. I am not weighing and not counting, but I know the calorie monsters and I know what is dangerous. Nonetheless, all this should lead, if done 3 days of fasting, to a deficit of 7500 or more. Even if I overeat 5 days with 500 cal, I am still at a deficit of 5000cal. How is it then possible, that while not having binged at all, having been conscious about my diet, that after a week of doing this, I gained 3 pounds??? I'm super frustrated. Is this not working as I expected it? Am I doing to much math? I can't make myself count the calories I eat on the non-fast days, because that's the whole reason I do fast.

    Would really appreciate comments....

People using Christmas to bring up someone’s weight...just stop (mini rant)

    Posted: 25 Dec 2020 07:28 AM PST

My dad would bring up my weight a lot when I was younger in a kinda playful way rather than serious way, and it would always stick with me (I'm 21 now). Whenever I would tell my mum (parents are divorced) that I'm upset about it and she would bring it up to him he would roll his eyes as if he meant I was taking a joke too seriously, when in reality what he said wasn't a joke, it was pretty bad on my self esteem.

I've lost some weight during the first lockdown, over 20lbs (from about March-august) but since being back at university, it's been difficult to find the time to exercise especially as gyms have been shut on and off for most of the time I've been at university. I haven't gained any weight since September, I just haven't lost any. I said to myself i wouldn't stress too much about it whilst we are locked down, I need to focus on my studies as I'm in my final year of university.

I always hate Christmas as relatives, especially my dad, use it as an excuse to say "we all need to diet and exercise after Christmas". I'm not obese according to BMI, I'm a bit overweight but I have always had a bigger bust and thighs than most even when I was a 'healthy' weight, it's just the way my body carries muscle and fat.

Basically, it hurt my feelings. And I haven't spoken to him about it. Again, he said it in a lighthearted way, but he knows I don't like it when he brings up weight. He was triggered to say it after I patted my stomach after our HUGE Christmas dinner as a way to show "wow look how big my stomach is after all that food is lol" but even the thinnest of people look pregnant after a huge Christmas meal? But I can't help but feel if I was skinnier he wouldn't say that to me. This time last year I almost fell into an eating disorder because I hated my weight, especially family bringing it up.

Losing weight is hard, is what I've done not enough? It's so hard to lose weight when your area is restricted to what it was literally like back when the pandemic started. It's even harder to exercise now because outdoors it gets so cold where I live.

Sorry about this, I'm just a bit sad :(

    What is my exercise factor?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2020 09:16 PM PST

Hi! I'm an 18yo Female, 5"6 and 143lbs. I'm trying to calculate my TDEE using the link below (although I'm open to suggestions if anyone has any other calculators). Due to COVID making me do school-from home, I spend most of my time at a desk, so my activity factor is "sedentary." I'm not sure about my exercise factor. I usually work out between 45-120 minutes a day (depends on my schedule), six days a week. I do a combination of bodyweight exercise (sometimes using a mini band), dance/aerobics, and HIIT workouts. What level would this be?

    Thank You!

Pressure to overeat over the holidays.

    Posted: 26 Dec 2020 01:31 AM PST

So I've decided to get back on it next Monday, I really want to loose 3.5st next year and last year I'll be honest sucked I really didn't loose much at all. Part of the reason I'm so eager to get back on it is I have ongoing health issues which would benefit from me loosing weight, it might only make a 5% reduction in my symptoms but that's more than worth it to me.

Basically all my support network are telling me I shouldn't get back on it next week, these are people who are also trying to loose weight and I respect fully that for them having a few weeks off is fine, as I suspect most people are doing, after all what you eat between Christmas and New Years isn't as important as what you eat between New Years and Christmas. But I'm finding it hard without the support of others and I crumble way to easily. Partially wanted to get this off my chest and also see if anyone else is staying on plan over the holidays or could relate to how I'm feeling. Thanks for reading, this subreddit has been such an inspiration to me and for the first time in my life I feel like I can do this.

Hello there! I am quite new to all of this but I am in desperate need of change and weight loss.

    Posted: 25 Dec 2020 08:00 PM PST

I am usually one to make my mind up to lose weight in the night and ignore all about it the very next morning. Sadly, I am not getting younger and I want to enjoy myself and my body NOW and not later. Are there any tips for losing weight in a (mentally!!!) healthy way without beating myself up too much? I am always looking on online shops and thinking >Oh, I would love to wear that but I won't buy it cuz I would feel terrible in it with my body in its' state rn< . Would it (objectively) be good or bad to just buy one and just wait for some pounds to roll so I can have a „material" goal in front of me?

    “Fast” weight loss

    Posted: 25 Dec 2020 10:06 PM PST

So I am currently in the process of losing 80 pounds although I'm on a maintenance break for my birthday right now.

Has anyone lost 50+ pounds quickly and been able to maintain the weight (for at least a year)? I don't want to lose the weight just to gain it back since I've done that before where I went from 205 to 170, and now I'm at 220-225.

It's not that I'm trying to rush the process. I'm hoping to lose 80 pounds in 30 weeks (a total loss of 2.5 lbs a week) but if it's not that quick it's not the end of the world. I'm going to keep going regardless but I hoped I'd be maintaining by the time I leave for college.

My goal was to get down to 140 then bulk up as I see fit. 140 is my "ideal" weight although it is likely I'll end up comfortable around 150-160 pounds. Any feedback is appreciated! I will be talking to my nutritionist btw so you guys don't have to worry that I'll be unhealthy! Health comes before the "look" I hope to have because I'll reach the goal regardless.

    Merry Christmas!

    Upcoming group challenges?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2020 07:15 PM PST

    (31F, 5'0", 134lb)

Does anyone know when/if there is another team weight loss challenge? I participated in one last year but had to drop out due to unexpected illness (sorry, team potions...).

It turns out that my illness was actually caused by my weight and although I've maintained through the year, the holidays have added a bit around the middle and my condition is in danger of returning. I really want to get back to pursuing my weight loss goals but am eager for some group support. If there are no upcoming challenges, would anyone be interested in organizing a small one with me?

(Sorry if there's been a post about this already, I tried to search it out and couldn't find anything)

Struggling to lose weight 24F 5’2

    Posted: 25 Dec 2020 06:51 PM PST

    Hi everyone,

I'm struggling a lot with losing weight. I was around 55kg my whole life and pretty fit, but in the last few years I went on medication for my depression, and two of the side effects for my specific medication have been weight loss or gain and an increased appetite. I subsequently have gained 30kg in 3 and a bit years.

I'm obviously overweight and I'm extremely self conscious about it. I stopped my medication after discussing with my therapist and doctor, and joined a gym in august. For my birthday in September I was given PT sessions. I went twice a week for a couple of weeks, then dropped down to once a week. I lost a couple of kg those first few weeks, but have really not seen much result since then.

I was doing a food diary and have been gymming 3-4x a week since October now, but I haven't even lost 5kg. I don't think I'm eating extremely unhealthily, and my PT has been pretty happy with my eating habits overall.

Obviously Christmas time is a hard period when you're trying to lose weight and control food etc but im just so frustrated with the lack of results.

It's been long enough now that I feel I should be seeing more results, and I'm just so tired of working out and eating pretty well (80/20) and nothing coming of it.

Does anyone have any advice? I don't know what to do next

TLDR: eating 80/20, working out pretty regularly, not seeing results. What next?

Anyone physically feel worse after weight loss?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2020 06:45 PM PST

For reference Im 32/F 5'4". For most of my adult life I've been in the 200-210 pound range. In January I got up to 222 and loathed the way I looked. I lost a few pounds pretty quick and then around April/May I buckled down more and started to count calories. I eat around 1500 a day. Sometimes a little more or less. I have a food scale and weigh my food and log my meals in MFP. I was also drinking 64oz of water a day. For exercise I was walking 3 miles about 5 days a week. I got down to around 205 pounds and started having dizziness upon standing. I saw my dr and we ran a bunch of labs and thyroid, vitamins and electrolytes were fine. She told me to up my water and I did to 100oz a day. Felt better. Was still having some of the dizziness but not like before.

Fast forward to thanksgiving. I'm down to 185 and feel great. At this point I had cut back the exercising I was doing because it was colder here and I wasn't able to get out more. And my gym is closed. I started getting more of the lightheaded and dizziness with standing up. My heart was always racing. My Fitbit said my HR while sitting was in the 70s-80s range and getting up and walking to the next room my HR would jump up to 115 or more. Saw my dr again and she told me to up my water again. I question that because it's not like I'm out running marathons or doing a lot of strenuous activity. She sent me to a cardiologist where I've had a echocardiogram, holter monitor and a tilt table test. Before my appointment I was checking my BP and was getting readings around 90/60 in the morning. He thought I had orthostatic hypotension caused by my weight loss. My tilt table test was negative for the orthostatic hypotension. I haven't got the results of my other tests yet. But he's had me up my water to 120oz and up my salt intake as well.

I also get migraines and have so for about 5 years now. They are getting worse. And I'm starting to have a lot of issues with dizziness. Last night when I bent over I was so dizzy and had to lay down.

I'm just feeling really discouraged. I pretty much feel worse now than when I was heavier. I thought that losing weight would help me feel better physically. I'm tired all the time. I'm anxious because I feel like crap. The cardiologist told me that when you have a good amount of fat loss you lose blood volume and make you feel bad. Had anyone else experienced this? Or anything similar? I want to get down to about 150 pounds but I'm almost afraid to keep pursuing weight loss.

    Any guidance wound be appreciated

    [ 22 M ] Achieved my first goal ! Lost 50 pounds Current H:170 / W:171pounds

    Posted: 25 Dec 2020 02:44 AM PST

Hello everybody, this is first time im posting here since i recently joined on your sub for the first time so i can share my story, hopefully motivate someone and get some tips on what should i do now..

    Pictures of progress: http://prntscr.com/w9o3ed

So 3 months and 2 weeks ago i was drinking a lot and since Covid started with all this crazy things goin on around the world i was stuck in my house for months with alcohol as best friend and fast food as my wife combined with 24/7 video games made an Pandoras box that i lived for a while and i finally had it enough..

So i started with my journey in first month i lost over 11 kg and afterwards the number just went by itself down i had my meals prepared from my trainer and i was tracking my macros intake outake how active i am actually and eventually came for the first time in months maybe even in years in the best shape that curently i am and i am happy about it !
Down sides that i felt from my bad living and eating habbits are:

    1. Anxiety and Depression ( Which i had before, but now even after weight lose are bigger
    2. I had trouble moving around
    3. Everything hurted me for no reason, had problems with breating
    4. My emotional and mood changes were so big that i didnt know what was happenin from time to time
    5. I actually thought that i didnt deserve to feel happines and i never will.

    * And many more this is a summary of most immportant that i can right now remember *

Good sides that i felt after losing so much weight are:

    1. More energy.
    2. Positive way of thinking ( as much as i can since my Anxiety and Depression problems )
    3. More motivation for accomplishing little goals.
    4. Self-esteem is boosted for a lot.
    5. My testosteron level is increased
    6. My health is improved in a lot of ways
    7. My Habits are increased and i dont have problems i with getting new one

    * Many more as well but i dont want to make a long list this are most important that i can remember right now *

Point is to picture yourself make little goals that worked for me 2 more pounds after that 2 more pounds and in no time THOSE 2 pounds that YOU'VE been counting for past weeks/ months / years will become 20 pounds and than 40 pounds etc etc..

Anyway, so now i've came to the last phase where i know how i want to look but i need your help guys based on the pictures here http://prntscr.com/w9o3ed that you can see, what would you recommend me should i go Lean Bulk , Fat bulk, or should i go with Cutting phase till i lose 4 more KG's so i can than start Bulk ? I don't know how should my eating look right now and i really want to finish this.

Ty for reading all for the new starters i hope i helped you if you need help, thoughts, tips on something that i can help with i will gladly help you and reply !
For the '' Old - timers '' i would really like to see your thoughts and help where should i go from here Bulk or Cut for 1 more month ? :) Peace all and have a nice day ;_)
