Is mind muscle connection a real thing or not? Posted: 11 Jul 2020 08:50 AM PDT Hey folks With some exercises I don't feel the muscles that I should working, pull ups is one. My back muscles such as my lats don't seem to turn on when I'm doing pull ups. My biceps get a good workout alright but not my back. Today I did dumbbell shrugs and it's the first time I've felt my traps actually work whereas when I do pull ups I don't feel a thing! So here's the thing, my back has never really being put to use, it's my most neglected chain. So I'm thinking that my brain just has no idea on how to use the muscles because there not used enough. Im now convinced that mind muscle connection must be a real thing. Any tips on how to solve this? [link] [comments] |
Rest day or no rest day: what does the science say Posted: 11 Jul 2020 12:26 PM PDT I'm aware this topic has been discussed before, too many times on different platforms. I've even had real life "experts" say different things, some say that you should work out every day, that micro tears heal overnight as you rest, but there's people who say do it every other day, what does the science say? Theoretically, your body should adjust, right? In the military they do the same routine every day and the body adjusts. Can you damage your body by repeating the same routine every day? I believe there seems to be a misconseption regarding neutral and close grip pull ups Posted: 10 Jul 2020 09:13 PM PDT From my experience, there are 2 ways to do neutral grip pull ups: Hang with a neutral grip, retract your scapula, then you "pull up" with your arms slighty flaired out to contract the back better. The other method is: Rather than ''pulling up with your arms flaired out", you keep them straight, pull up, and close the gap between your hands and the shoulders. I believe this literally imitates a heavy hammer curl which targets the brachialis more. The same can be said with close grip pull ups. Rather than flairing your arms out to hit the mid back better, you keep them aligned with your shoulders and close the gap. This then imitates a heavy reverse curl. Theoretically, this may decrease activation of the back but will increase the activation of the arms more. What are your opinions on this. Do you think it has bits of the truth?
