Weight loss: I’ve lost about 40 pounds since last year and I’m really proud of myself

I’ve lost about 40 pounds since last year and I’m really proud of myself

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 08:42 PM PDT

I've always struggled with my weight, I was bullied as a kid, I've yo-yo-ed up and down but I finally feel like I can accept how I look at any weight. I think that was a huge factor in my outlook on weight loss.

At this time last year I weighed about 220 lbs and I'm 5'6". I was bursting out of size 16 pants but I refused to buy anything larger. When I laid down my neck fat made it hard to breathe and when I put my headphones around my neck they were almost swallowed up. I was so oblivious too; I thought there must be an error on the scale, maybe I'm growing a huge tumor.

I started to seriously limit my sugar and carb intake solely to control some unwanted facial hair. I wasn't even actively trying to lose weight, but I slowly managed to come down to 180. Now I look back on photos from back then and I can't believe it. All of my clothes are way looser, I don't feel choked when I lay down, and I feel way more confident. The definition in my face is back! I hadn't even realized I'd lost that.

My size 16 pants are barely staying up and I just ordered a few pairs the next size down, and even some dresses which I never used to wear. It's a little weird that I can still wear the same pants I was wearing 40 pounds ago but I'm definitely pear shaped and have wide hips so I guess it makes sense.

I don't have any current pictures of myself for a comparison but if anyone's interested I can get a side by side together.

It took until November before I actually started losing any weight even though I peaked around May. It just wouldn't come off until I cut the carbs and sugar way down. I was also going through a really stressful and traumatic time and getting myself financially stable again helped my mental health so much. I assume that played into my weight situation.

All through the last year I've been seeing all these posts on this subreddit and wondering if I'd ever get to make a post like this. Woohoo!!! Also the unwanted facial hair is way more manageable now, yikes was it bad before.

FIVE POUNDS DOWN!!!! I am so EXCITED AND THRILLED!! 19F 5”4 from 140 to 135

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 08:09 AM PDT

I'm a 19F 5"4. I've been hovering around 140 since October. At my heaviest, I was 143. I started running everyday and started eating a good, filling breakfast. I also started tracking my calorie intake. I still sometimes eat fried chicken and french fries because of my mom, but hey what can you do. I eat more salmon and veggies now, and I stopped eating brownies everyday. I am so happy to be 135! Wellll 135.6! That's the lowest I've been in months! Just here to say that it can be done.

    How I Did It

Well let me preface this by saying that in college, I gained THIRTY pounds. I was 110 going into college, and 140 by the time I was forced out during quarantine. I'm scared to know what would have happened to me if I stayed in college. I was eating pizza, burgers, and french fries thanks to my unlimited amount of trips to the dining hall. I was a track athlete, but I was hitting nowhere near my PRs like I did in high school. I was sad, depressed and angry with myself for how low I had gotten with myself. When quarantine hit, I decided to start running everyday on March 13. It was the best decision that I have ever made. I started eating WAY LESS than I was eating before. Sure my mom made unhealthy foods now and then, but at least I wasn't getting seconds or thirds or sometimes even eighths and ninths like I was in college. I now run between 1-3 miles everyday. I also started tracking my calorie intake, and I started journaling everyday. I am more mindful with my time, and I just finished Becoming by Michelle Obama today. I am so happy, and if I could be 120 pounds that would be my DREAM. It can be done folks, it can be done. It just takes patience and dedication.

I would have never thought this was possible. Down 60lbs.

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 06:52 PM PDT

As of yesterday I now have a normal BMI and am under 200lbs for the first time since I graduated from high school.

I've been a member of the community for years looking for advice and trying everything to lose weight. Nothing seemed to work and I would keep over eating and gaining weight. Turns out it wasn't what I was eating but what was eating me. I left a toxic relationship and then had my heart utterly obliterated by first attempt at a new relationship afterwards.

Through the depression I realized I lost my hunger but when I did eat i made sure to chose better options and my portions shrank. Eating a little made me feel so full and my clothes just started falling off. I had to buy 2 new wardrobes in 6 months.

as of today I am 199.8lbs and 6ft 3. Finally have a normal BMI for the first time in my adult life. Clothes that I bought for "when I lose weight" are still too big. Its maybe not the best journey but it is mine.

Now I'm left with a weird relationship with food. I find myself wondering "am I hungry or bored" and "does that really taste good enough for me to blow most of my daily calories on it"

Just wanted to share the story. Thanks for reading.

I’m being shown love through gifts other than food and it’s making all the difference.

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 10:44 PM PDT

Long time lurker though now I doubt I'm posting properly. All growing up and being raised by obese and very loving parents, whenever I accomplished anything, was sad, was lonely, or anything really, they knew how to cheer me up, with food, especially pizza (I'm from Chicago and seriously have you SEEN deep dish?!?!) As weird as it is me loving pizza became almost a beloved character trait of me to others. Fast forward, my husband and I have been together almost two years and while there are of course times he'll bring home pizza or we'll get our favorite snacks for a movie, when he wants to get me something special he buys me things OTHER THAN FOOD. And I just realized the other day how new that was to me. Even when we were dating my husband would buy me facial masks, candles, I love Godzilla and gardening and he buys me things that have to do with those things in addition to being my biggest cheerleader when it comes to food and exercise. In the time since we started dating I've lost over 60 lbs and SO MUCH of it is because of him, and him bringing me joy from other areas of my life beside food. I don't know if this is resonating with anyone else?

TLDR: Definitely love food, but I love other gifts more

Reminder: One bad day won’t ruin all of your progress!

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 11:05 PM PDT

I had my worst binge today. I ate non-stop until I felt sick I almost puked. This has never happened to me before where I felt so stuffed I tried to make myself throw up, but I couldn't. Being on quarantine is stressing me out and I can admit that some days I do restrict my calories in order to reach my goal weight.

I've been working on my fitness journey, my health, and weight loss goals for over a couple of months.

I don't feel as guilty anymore because I know one bad day won't ruin all of my hard work and progress. Only if I consistently overeat for a period of time I'll lose my progress.

So to everyone on their health journey, one day doesn't define you! You can do this! Stay consistent and on track. We will reach our goals and this is a marathon, not a sprint!

Can’t stand my body anymore... hoping to be able to lose weight and keep it off and get over my anxiety

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 09:24 PM PDT

F21. I'm the biggest I've been at 220. The past few month I've seen my belly get bigger and my cellulite get worse. I have been afraid of working out at home because I live with my fiancé who is in the military and I'm just afraid of judgement (despite knowing he wouldn't judge me). I'm embarrassed at how out of shape I am. I've decided I'm going to try to do smaller at home work outs (crunches, jumping jacks, planks, etc) throughout the day wherever I can be alone and away from him. It seems strange I want to hide from him but I'm hoping to get more in shape so I can feel confident enough to start going to the gym with him and let my guard down so I can have his support without feeling so self conscious.

I know exactly how to do this but yet I just.... don't. Every. Single. Day.

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 07:27 AM PDT

I start basically every day with the intention of logging food in MyFitnessPal. I know exactly how to do this. CICO. All in the kitchen, not trying to rely on exercise. I know my TDEE. I know how much excess energy results in a pound of stored fat. I know 1-2 lbs of weight loss a week is good. I know fad diets don't work. I know I can have anything I want in moderation.

Why haven't I been successful? Why haven't I lost the 20-30 lbs I desperately want to lose? Because I start literally every day with good intentions, and at some point I throw it out the window. Donuts show up in the office (remember when we could *go* to the office?!) I eat half of one and track it. But later, I want another one, I say fuck it and eat it. Maybe I track it to keep myself honest, maybe that's my fuck it point for the day. Go out to lunch with coworkers. I tell myself I will choose a healthy option, but nope, say fuck it and get the whopper and onion rings. Maybe I make it through the workday and I am exhausted and want to order dinner. I start with good intentions and say okay, I'll order steamed broccoli and.... but somewhere between that thought and the free crab rangoons with $25 purchase, I yet again say fuck it. I definitely have issues with binging too, and sometimes I'll stop at Dollar General on the way home and get a bag of gummies, a bag of chips, a chocolate bar and a hostess snack and eat them all on the way home and hide the wrappers. Sometimes, like yesterday, I make it to 10pm and then eat 3 pb&j sandwiches, a bologna sandwich, 3 servings of pretzels with peanut butter and a cinnamon roll.

After reading that, you're probably thinking "damn this girl has gotta be a contender for My 600 Lb life" but that's part of the problem. I'm not *that* big. I wear a size 8 jean and medium everything else. So part of my rationalization is "oh, you're not THAT bad". Plenty of people are bigger than you! Which I know is absolutely awful and please don't read this and feel any certain way about your body knowing disordered thinkers like me are out here comparing myself to some sort of weird fatness lineup. Weight loss aside, i know my relationship with food is fucked, and i should want to fix that.

So yeah. I know CICO. I can fairly accurately calorie count anything. I just don't. I'm so envious of the people on this sub who just see the light and go "oh, just eat less of the calories? okie dokie!" and then go on with their bad selves and transform.

If I sound whiney and dumb, I know. I hate it. I'm not some idiot in real life either. I can accomplish things i set my mind to... but somehow not this. Has anybody been in a similar situation? Any advice? This repeating pattern of good intentions immediately followed by self destruction on a daily basis is mentally exhausting and i need to break the cycle. Maybe this is the first step, just acknowledging it.

TL;DR: I start and sabotage basically every day and wonder what is so broken in me to cause this.

1st day of 21 to loose as much as I can before returning to work!

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 08:02 PM PDT

So today I got the phone call from work that I won't be returning to work on May 1st - the anticipated time from our Governor's Stay home, stay safe order. The time has been extended to May 16th (our State has extended the Stay home, stay safe order until May 15th). I've done fairly well with my weight loss but haven't been really strict. So today I'm really getting on the program! This morning my weight was 170.8 pounds. My daily goals are 1200 calories, water is 3 liters and at least 30 to 60 minute walk. I want to get as close as I can to 150 pounds before I return to work! I'll log everything in Myfitnesspal.com.

Since I've been home from work (my last day of work was March 17th) I've been working on trying to eat salads, fruit, yogurt and lean homemade meals, mostly vegetarian and no processed or fried foods. Up until now I've snuck in a few cookies (homemade) and a little bit of candy/chocolate, and there was the ice-cream (I don't have anymore in the house!). I did give up Diet Coke and now just drink water. The pantry and freezers have been cleaned out (I have an upright freezer and the freezer in the frig) and I've been working at stocking them with homemade single serve meals, fruit and vegetables, lean meats and healthy baked goods - all stored in single serve packaging. My plan is to have enough meals made up so it's a healthy grab and go meal daily, just add a salad and piece of fruit. I'm even putting in homemade breakfast foods. Trying to make a really good variety of meals. I want enough meals for 3 months so I can continue to go down to 140ish pounds!

So the plan is to do intermittent fasting. I'll eat between 4pm to 7pm every day. I'll drink water and unsweetened tea. I'll stick to just my homemade meals - mostly salad and fruits. Although on Friday's I'll order perch, baked potato, cole slaw, dinner roll and a piece of cake (it's an entire meal you can order) - it's from one of our local groups and they deliver. The roll and dessert will be put in the freezer for now. I'll continue to cook/bake and stock the freezers and pantry.

The plan extends into the time I return to work - until I meet my goal! I like to distance walk in the summer so that will continue with that. Last year I didn't make a trip to the local Dairy Queen and I won't be going this year! I work in a restaurant/bar and I won't be eating anything from there and no goodies from the gift shop at work either. No Diet Coke when I go back to work.

I know this is very attainable! The highest my weight was 285 a few years ago and I went down to 140 pounds. I then had some health issues and my weight went up to 220ish pounds. It's time to get it together again! This is a perfect time, since I'm home, to work on me! In January I had a health issue and it really made me want to focus on me!

So I want to emerge from this Covid-19 stay home, stay safe time healthier than when it began. When there is so much stuff going on in the world it feels really good to have something I can control in my life! Is anyone else doing this? Please let me know what you are doing to achieve your goals. I will check back in to let you know how I'm doing.

Mini-success story- I’m able to do an hour on the elliptical!

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 09:10 PM PDT

This is a very minor success story compared to all the awesome things people are achieving on here, but I just wanted to share this as I'm excited for myself! For ten years in my youth, I was a cross-country and long distance runner, but I quit running competitively when I was 16 as my asthma got bad (I was born quite premature and got really sick at 6 months, so my lungs only work at about 60-70% the capacity of a normal person's). I still have asthma, and exercise isn't always easy with it, but for most of my life I stayed pretty active. When I was 20, my pelvic and back pain flared up and I became really lazy, and I gained a lot of weight from the laziness and medicine I was on. I'm still trying to lose that weight, and for the past three months I've become serious about going on the elliptical 4-5 times a week, as I realized just cycling wasn't helping me lose much weight or improve my cardio fitness. I started easy, just doing 20 or 30 min at a time, but now I am up to about 45 minutes per workout. Tonight I just did an hour! I hope I will eventually get to the point where doing an hour five times a week is my norm.

Best of luck to everyone on here! More than just for weight loss, work out for your own health and happiness, and love yourself ❤️ You're doing great! No matter what health challenges you face, just try to do the most that you can, and don't compare yourself to others :) And please, please, please remember to stretch!

Halfway to my goal! And a different kind of weight loss tracker :)

    Trackers & Progress Pic

I started my weight loss journey as a new year's resolution for 2020. My goal is to lose 25lbs in 250 days (averages out to 0.7lbs per week). Today I hit my halfway point, and I'm so excited! I'm even slightly ahead of schedule! I started with strict CICO, but it wasn't really showing me the progress I wanted and I felt like it was too restrictive and not sustainable long term. Mid February I switched over to IF (18:6 or 20:4) and absolutely love it! I'm still seeing great progress even with the coronavirus shutting down all the gyms. For April I decided to give alternate day fasting a try, but I'm seeing the same progress as I was doing shorter daily fasts, so in May I will switch back to 20:4.

The fun part of this post - my weight loss tracker/motivator! I use a little vase with pretty blue pebbles to keep me motivated. Each pebble represents 0.5lbs, and when my trendline goes down I take one out. The vase will be empty when I hit my goal weight! It's a simple but fun way to visualize your weight loss, and I get so happy every time I get to take one out :)

I can see my ribcage and I'm freaking out!

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 02:12 PM PDT

To preface, I'm not skinny lol. I'm 5'4 and in the last year have gone from 239lb to around 138ish, so still well within a healthy range and looking to hopefully get to about 120lb.

I've gotten used to feeling various bones in my body, hips, collarbones, etc, and don't mind them. Tonight, I was undressing in front of the mirror and realised I could see my ribs. Not on my side, where it's somewhat normal to see them - but in the centre of my chest. When I pull my arms back, I can count my ribs and see where they connect to my sternum.

Guys, I hate this. It feels awful. But at the same time, I still have a tummy pooch and some excess on my hips that I'd like to get rid of. But it's starting to feel like the weight is only coming off in certain areas, making some parts of my body look really scrawny or unhealthy while other parts are still soft and wobbly.

I know that this is probably just the way my body is built and how my weight is naturally distributed, but I hate knowing that my ribs will be visible to everyone if I wear a low cut top (it also doesn't help that my breasts have deflated horribly so they're lower than before).

I've been fat my entire adult life and have literally never had a problem like this before. I know it's not exactly weight loss related, but does anyone have any advice? Is there anything I can do to minimise this or hide it, aside from only wearing high necklines? How do I get used to this?

    Thank you

Holy Shit. Exercise is actually fun

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 02:18 AM PDT

I am 53 years old, morbidly obese and have never exercised before. But this corona thing has got me scared and I thought I'd better start doing something about my health. My knee hurts when I walk so running is out of the question by I found that I could ride a bike without too much pain so I have been going out every morning for the last two weeks.

At first it was two laps of the bike track and coming home knackered but I have been gradually working up and today I did 3 laps of the lake (3miles) and all the way to the top of the steepest hill without getting off - (I was screaming to get to the top) followed by a couple of fast laps of the track and then home.

I have to say that I've been gobsmacked at how much I enjoy getting out of breath. The hill is especially taxing and I'm hot and sweaty and feeling a sort of happy glow when I get home. It's mostly the exercise itself but there is also a sense of accomplishment. It's only been 2 weeks but I can already feel myself getting fitter. I know that I have a long way to go. My initial goal is to get my bmi below 40, I lost 1.5Kg this week so that's a start. I reckon it will take me another 6-12 weeks to reach that first goal if I lose between half and 1 kg per week.

I just want to say to anyone considering exercise that if you choose something that doesn't hurt you, and you commit to doing it regularly, then it really does make you feel better and it doesn't take long at all before you begin to notice improvements.

Torn ACL, Dad died, and relationship ended. Time to lose again.

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 08:49 AM PDT

I think I finally got the push I needed to lose weight again. This year has been rough so far. On January 4th I tore my ACL playing basketball. It also happened to be the same day my father entered the ICU. He spent the next month in the ICU until passing away on January 30th. In the begging of March my relationship of about 2 and half years ended as well. It's been hard but I think this might be what I need to finally get on track. I've lost 100 pounds before but unfortunately have gained most of it back over the last 5 years. I've been working out at home with this whole Corona Virus situation. I plan on to start counting my calories. I can do this. I'm posting this to keep myself accountable. I need to stick to it this time.

Down 22 pounds! Actually like running?!??!?

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 11:59 AM PDT

Hi all, 30 yr old male, about 5'8". Around thanksgiving I was at an all time heaviest of 213lbs. From there I started to manage my food intake with some mild results and eventually transitioned back into the gym (weights/cardio). Even after the gyms closed due to COVID I've still lost weight by walking 3-5 miles/day which has now turned to walking out a couple miles or so, running home and actually enjoying it! I'm faster than I have been in a long time, running longer and with little/no exercise induced asthma issues I've had most of my life. Controlling food portions and some kettlebell work a couple times/week have also helped. Down to 191lbs, just 2lbs from the 180s and 6lbs from my initial goal. I have not been in the 180s for easily 3-4years. Stick with it, get addicted to the process and the results will come!!!

Today my weight loss journey starts!

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 03:26 PM PDT

I never post on Reddit, I'm not sure how it works but I'm giving it a go anyways.

So basically I'm (18F) starting my weight loss journey today, I weigh 71kgs (156 lbs) and I'm 174cm (5'8). I did a crash diet at the beginning of this year and in 2 months I went from 73kgs (160 lbs) to 64 kgs( 141lbs) but I gained almost all of it back in 4 months. I was always cold and very weak, I felt awful to be honest. But people noticed the weight loss and my clothes felt more comfortable. I struggle with disordered eating and losing weight has always been an ongoing issue with me. Now I just want to get back to that weight and possibly lose a few more pounds but in a healthy way. I don't feel comfortable in my own body and want to feel comfortable in clothes again. So I just wanted to write here for accountability.

I want to mention that I love my body, I just don't feel my very best in it so this journeys sole purpose is to allow myself to feel as good as I can in my body! If anyone sees this, I'm open to any advice and tips you guys might have!

Former athlete but now can’t lose any weight

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 10:26 PM PDT

I (34F) am formerly a competitive amateur athlete at competition weight 66kg. At regular everyday but still fit weight of 75kg. I got seriously injured (rotator cuff and neck issue) two years ago and started gaining weight. In Feb 2020 I clocked in at a whopping 95kg. My doctor wanted to put me on weight loss injections but being an over confident former athlete I said I was used to getting in shape and knew how to do it properly and would be just fine on my own.

Since then I have been cleared to return to my sport but can't because of quarantine. I have reduced alcohol from 20-25 drinks per week (heyyy depression) to 7-10 per week. I track my calories honestly and with a kitchen scale - sub 1500 and focus on protein most days.

I workout 5 days per week and have even added evil cardio to strength training which I'm more comfortable with. Last week I did an indoor 5k, I've been doing zoom dance classes, shadow boxing, HIIT, and so on.

I've lost 4 measly kg in 3 months.

I know I'm getting old but what the hell? Why is this happening?

    Getting back to it!

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 10:14 PM PDT

I am currently 135 pounds and 5'6". My starting weight was 211 and I have been maintaining for over a year now. My original goal weight was 145. I hit 145 a year ago and then easily got into the 130s where I've been floating for awhile now. About 6 months ago I decided I wanted to shoot for 125-128 pounds as sometimes water weight makes me creep up to almost 140 and I just wasn't happy with that. On top of that I still have a little fluff in my stomach area.

I've been in quarantine for 38 days and haven't lost or gained any weight but have now decided, why haven't I been using this time to lost the last 10 pounds? I can't go to my gym but I can walk, I track my calories as is but I'm still being pretty lax and eating mostly at maintenance.

Tomorrow I've decided to get back to it, and to lose the last 10 pounds. It seems for most people the last 10 is the hardest to lose but I'm hoping by end of June I'll be at my goal!! I wanted to post this to keep myself accountable and maybe hear some tips about losing the last 10 pounds.

[NSV] exercise is getting a lot easier

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 02:50 PM PDT

i've always been so jealous of people who are thin but out of shape because getting in shape would be comparatively so much easier for them. even at my highest weight i still tried to do exercise. mostly just walking and biking in the summer. i tried to get into jogging but i think i expected too much and always made it too intense of a workout for me. also made me worry about my joints. i still liked exercise but everything was just so hard because of my weight. even though i biked like every day last summer, it never really seemed to get easier. not because i never pushed myself, but because i still always weighed so much.

now that i've spent all winter inside with only stretches as exercise, you'd think i'd be way less fit than i was in the summer. the fact is, i've lost a lot of weight since last year by focusing on my diet and it's made the most difference in my fitness by far than any amount of exercise i could ever do. i've noticed little things like how going up and down stairs from the basement to my bedroom has become basically nothing. like, maybe i'll be a little short of breath but that's it and i recover really fast. today i took my first real bike ride of the season and did the same route i'd do almost every day last summer. the hills were nothing and i biked so fast that when i got back my parents thought i hadn't even left yet.

i think this is how things are going to snowball. the more exercise i can do the more i'll do it. and with how much easier it is, and the more i'm able to do, the more i'll be motivated to keep eating right. i mean, as soon as i got home today, my parents asked if i wanted something from dairy queen because they were going for shakes. in my mind i was like 'are you nuts?? i just biked to the power dam and back so easy, no way i'm going back to that old weight!' and of course i said 'no thanks'.

Advice from someone who was struggling to lose weight

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 05:51 PM PDT

    Hi,

I'm not much of a browser of this forum, but I wanted to share some tips that worked for me, in the hope it will help others. I was roughly 15-20 lbs overweight. I'm under 10 lbs overweight now, with the gap closing steadily. My ideal weight is somewhere between 170-175 (male).

A big thing that worked for me was getting a small kitchen scale (cost: $10). It allowed me to see where I was accidentally overingesting calories. It turns out cereal was a major culprit--I was accidentally eating 3, 4 + servings when I thought it was one serving. You don't have to be perfect, but this allowed me to know whether I was eating meals that were 500 calories. Also, at least for me, 500 calorie meals do not entail suffering at all. It's not hard to find meals that will satiate you at 500 calories.

The other big thing was going on long walks (this is quite easy while the whole world is essentially on lockdown). They say weight is mostly lost in the kitchen, but I don't think that's true--I think it should be viewed as 50/50.

Apple's health tracker app has a very intuitive interface that lets you view your progress. Another thing I got was a ~$20 scale that gave me accurate weights. Even though you shouldn't obsessively track your weight, seeing a real trend and progress can be hugely motivating. Make sure you have a scale with good accuracy (and precision).

These changes have led to consistent weight loss and not that much suffering. I recommend (as do websites curated by health professionals) having a ~1000 calorie deficit per day (for me it was a 500 difference from my BMR of 2000 and 500 from exercise), which will lead to 2 lbs per week. If you have a different profile than me, you may need a different schedule; definitely see a medical provider.

    Good luck!

What's your most recent non-scale victory?

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 11:07 AM PDT

I purchased a pair of jeans by size back in the early fall without trying them on first and due to the cut (high waist, button fly, no stretch--what was I thinking?) I couldn't even get them past my thighs. My weight loss has been excruciatingly slow for months now and the last time I tried them on about 6 weeks ago (right before quarantine shut down my gym), I still couldn't get them past my thighs. I've been doing A LOT of walking since I can't get my high intensity gym workouts anymore and even though there's only been a .5 lb difference on the scale since, I could feel my core tightening up. I'm low on clean laundry at the moment so I decided to try them on again today fully expecting to once again be thwarted by my thighs, but LO! I was able to get them above my thighs, over my hips and BUTTON ALL THE BUTTONS! I just wanted to share this as a reminder that the scale isn't everything and to not get discouraged if that number is stuck or slow to move.

So, what's your most recent non-scale victory?

EDIT It's incredibly inspiring to read through everyone's accomplishments! Keep up the great work!

(NSV) Someone recognized that I’ve lost weight without me telling them for the first time yesterday, and it felt great. Now I’m putting that energy back into my weight loss.

Title says most of it. I started being deliberate about wanting to lose weight in January and have generally been working pretty hard at it. I joined a paid weight loss app and it has really been worth it - it takes me outside of my own head and teaches me things about how I respond to food etc in a way I've never been able to do trying to be more fit on my own. So I've been tracking my progress pretty closely throughout.

But here's the thing. I don't see the change in myself. I still feel as fat as ever, and it hadn't really hit home that I was making a difference; at some point the numbers on the scale just don't mean much. But being recognized by my coworkers for the change so far, that was extremely encouraging.

In the past couple of weeks, especially since the Rona shut so much down, I've fallen off of the dedicated track. I'm still calorie restricting, mostly, but I'm not checking in on the app, not logging meals, and my overall activity levels are far lower than they were before. I've been maintaining and had lost my drive. So now I'm going to take that positive feeling from my work being noticed and get back into things.

I finally found a type of exercise I ACTUALLY enjoy.

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 01:00 PM PDT

I have always detested exercise. Even when I was fit, it was a chore to check off my daily to do list as quick as I could. I never felt good afterward and it always made me a little grumpy because it was just unenjoyable for me.

    But today that changed.

I don't know why didn't think of this before, but I used to take dance when I was teenager. I tried this video:

    https://youtu.be/8DZktowZo_k

And holy crap! I wanted to quit halfway through, then I almost quit with 10 minutes left, but I completed it-and I feel AMAZING. It was so much fun, kicked my butt and for the first time in my life I think I get why people like exercise. It just feels good, when you find the right one.

If you're like me, try this. There's all different types of dance workouts you can find if you don't want to do this one specifically. I am looking forward to to my next workout tomorrow.

Looking for advice, i've been dieting/exercising but i'm making no progress?

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 08:36 PM PDT

So to give context to the situation i'm 23M 290 pounds and roughly 2-3 weeks ago i made a few dramatic changes to my lifestyle in an attempt to start changing that.

I went from doing literally nothing but sitting throughout the day and eating 3k+ calories down to 1500-1800. (Yes i calorie count myself as this sub/doctor has recommended) half of that i cut by just moving away from drinking soda to just water.

I also started weight lifting and cycling on a stationary bike.

Bike is 2 times a day 15 mins each burning roughly 200-300 according to the equipment.

Due to inactivity for many years i'm physically weak so i do a variety of dumbbell exercises. For example 10 pound curls 3 sets of 12 2 minute apart.

I'm not understanding how i can make such a change stick to it for weeks and not see any progress. I'd appreciate any advice.
