AMA Announcement: Tricia Woo and Chris McGreevy (Cirque Du Soleil and The House of Dancing Water) will be joining us on Friday, July 31st. Mark your calendars and prep your questions!

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 08:35 PM PDT

    Hey everyone!

We're happy to announce an upcoming AMA with Tricia Woo and Chris McGreevy on Friday, July 31st. They are both currently in Germany so expect the post to go up on their time. We will have the thread stickied as soon as it goes up and the two will be answering questions throughout the day. For more about the two, read below:

    Tricia Woo

A Nutrition Science major, Tricia did what we all joke about - she ran away to the circus. As seen in 16x9's "Getting into Cirque", she finds her way from college gymnast to Cirque du Soleil performer.

Despite her success as a performer, a ligament laxity contributed to serious injuries throughout her career. Multiple dislocations resulted in a double shoulder surgery in 2014 followed by a third surgery in 2018. Tricia understands the mental and physical difficulties of recovering from injury.

Although her shoulder may never fully recover, she continues to see the benefit of an active lifestyle and refuses to be limited by her physical restrictions.

    Chris McGreevy

Chris is an acrobat, circus performer and artist. He represented Great Britain's Sports Acrobatics team as a competitive athlete across multiple disciplines before transitioning into a career on stage.

Performing as a part of Cirque Du Soleil's 'Paramour' and Franco Dragone's 'The House of Dancing Water,' Chris is a specialist in hand to hand, aerial straps and has coached various other circus disciplines.

During his time at 'The House of Dancing Water,' Chris also assumed a role as part of the artistic management team. Due to this unique position, he can provide an insight into on stage, training and behind the scenes workings of a large scale theatrical production.

For more info, check out their social media and some of their videos below!

As with every AMA, we kindly ask that you treat our guests with respect and make them feel welcome to our community.

Should this AMA schedule conflict with yours, you are more than welcome to post your questions here and I can get them submitted as your proxy on the day of the AMA for Tricia and Chris to answer.

    Thanks!

Can't do negative chin-up, no place to hang, any advice?

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 01:11 PM PDT

I started to do the RR and the other workouts other than Romanian Deadlifts are working good, however I can't do a negative chin up. The first day I did it I could barely do 5 seconds for 3x8 but I got sore now I can hardly do 1 or 2 today.

I can't really hang from it, I'm average height 5'9, but between the doorframe size & how it hangs I can't practice that way.

    Thanks for reading! :)

how to deal with frustration of not being able to do an excercise, progression or having bad form even when you work your ass of to fix it and its still bad?

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 01:02 PM PDT

hey. am 17, 61kg, 174cm, been doing the RR for about 5 months and am a beginner. ik 5 months is not much but still just want to vent and need advise. i have an arched back and tight and most likely weak hamstrings and glutes. i can do good form pushups but with an arched back and my legs arent completely straight. if i straighten my lower back and engage my core my legs bend at an angle and when go into an APT my legs are straight. i cant do proper reverse hyper extentions cuz my back arches even when i try to squeeze my glutes and i can barely get my thighs parallel to the ground. how do i fix my lower back and hamstrings. what exercises can i do to strengthen them. i want to do intense exercises like the planche, elbow lever planche, handstands, leg raises and so much more. but with the way my back arches and legs not being straight. i just dont know at this point. looked up way too many exercises and idk what to do. how do i deal with this frustration?

    Ab wheel rollouts question

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 09:03 AM PDT

So I've been using an ab wheel for rollouts for a while now, I can do it quite a few times in really good form, from my knees. I previously was pretty inflexible and couldn't touch my toes and now that I can I'm trying to do the rollouts from a standing position, the issue is.. I believe my lower back is too weak. I have some slight pain in my lower back muscles and near my spine in that area when I get just past my shoulders on a rollout. I've been trying to strengthen the muscles and keep at my flexibility but it doesn't seem to be helping. Any insight? I'm 5'6 and like 115.

effectiveness of jump rope for developing the soleus and gastrocs?

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 11:52 PM PDT

My calves are pretty skinny due to high inserts so I am wondering whether doing jump rope as my warmup before workouts will help me build my lower legs especially the soleus? I have been doing 10 mins jump rope before every workout for the past 2 weeks and my lower legs around the soleus area are totally wrecked. Previously I had just been doing seated and standing raises but now with added jump rope they feel like they have been worked out a lot more. So will jump rope help to add size or will it just strengthen/increase endurance of my calves?

How can I make parallel bars more comfortable?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 08:52 PM PDT

The bars I have are very thin and it kills my hands when I do parallel bar holds. Anyone have ideas as to how to make them thicker? Maybe some sort of tape or foam?

Today I did my first muscle up. 2 tips that helped me a lot

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 02:24 PM PDT

So today I did my first unassisted muscle up. I never had trained for it but I could do 15 pull ups in a row so 2 weeks ago I decided to go for it. I bought an elastic band of 25kg and I could do the muscle up pretty easily but I was far without the band. The 2 things that helped me are:

    1. Change the usual motion of a regular pull up where you go straight up. Try to go up in a circular motion so you can move your grip easier

    2. If you train in a street workout park, use the "squared bars". I don't know how they are called but basically they allow to put your body between your hands (in a regular bar the bar itself is blocking). Training muscle ups in these bars helped me a lot moving to the muscle up in straight bar.

    Hope it helps ;)

I am doing the mountain dog at home workout from this subs program list, is it enough?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 11:24 PM PDT

I coming from lifting weights in the gym and I'm just wondering if these YouTube programs are enough or hitting everything. I'm not super smart about lifting, before I bought Wendler's 5/3/1 forever book and was just following that.

Now I'm working out at home following mountain dogs at home resistance band trainings from links in this sub. Can I just do these for upper body? Is it enough to grow?

Non harming Mount for gymnastic rings?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 11:14 PM PDT

Is there a good mount you can take with you put on a tree without harming the tree for the rings? A mobile Mount or how to phrase IT?
