    Motivation to workout

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 01:12 AM PDT

What is your motivation to work out now? Recently I have found it difficult to find any motivation to exercise because (for obvious reasons) now I cannot play sports and rarely leave my house.

Fitbod app is offering free bodyweight workouts.

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 11:28 AM PDT

This will help if anyone is looking for routines to do at the house. I've been using it for over a year at the gym (lifting weights mostly) and it works for me. Changed it up to work out from home and it's been kicking my ass.

Anyway I figured this sub would like the bodyweight version of this.

Confined in a small space shared with my family and loosing my motivation to stay fit

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 11:43 AM PDT

Stuck at my parents house for a month now because of the lockdown. I used to go to a gym for more than a year now, but now i can't and have to resort to doing home workout. Its been pretty hard to do some of these workout since we have such little space. And what's worse was everytime i do workout i feel being severly judged.

Well, i don't have my own room here, so if i had to do push-up, plank or crunches i had to do it in the only space available, in front of the couch while the rest of my family are sitting comfortably awkwardly trying not to look at me doing my thing as they continue to watch netflix. It doesn't help non of my family members ever workout and they never understood why i need to sweat away calories. I feel like they hate me for making them feel bad about themselves.

Another problem is that, i had to wake up my relatives just to be able to use that floor. We have very little space that we use extra cushion to sleep on the floor. 3 people sleeps on the floor including me and i had to wait for them to wake up to just use it or force then to get up. And they sleep a lot. Sloth-like. They sleep more than 16 hrs a day. Waking them up just to exercise was terribly awkward. Although they never said anything against it, i feel like i have been judged for being so pretentious.

Another problem, i lost track of my diet. You can't be choosy when you're living off canned goods for a month now. I never missed fresh vegetables so much in my life. My dad is in-charge of cooking and he's able to keep things interesting and we may have had the most variations you can get out of canned tuna. I used to make it a habit to add fresh fruit slices to my every meal, now we only have canned peaches and pineapples and they taste horrible.

My family loves their snack, so before the lockdown they made sure to stock up on their favorite bags of chips, popcorn and sodas that we have enough supplies to last two more months with these. It's a struggle to watch them gobble up these junk food while lazily watching netflix without participating myself.

I gained more than 5lbs in the last month staying here and i'm starting to hate myself. I lost motivation to stay fit, and had stopped working out the last few days. Its a lot more convenient just to just watch tv all day, sleep all night, and eat whatever we have in-between. This living condition is becoming unbearable but i don't have anywhere to go. It feels like prison.

How do i gain back motivation to stay fit in such condition?

Anyone else have knee issues with banded Nordic curls?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 11:15 AM PDT

Since I've started doing the recommended routine I noticed that I have a pulsing, burning pain in the front of my left knee while it's locked out. I am thinking that is a result of the Nordic Curls. I also do the beginner shrimp squats. I have been these exercises at a playground that is unfortunately filled with mulch so when my friend doesn't come with me I have to use this jungle gym thing to anchor my feet down and I put my duffle bag under my knees to try to help but it still feels pretty rough on the transition to my upper knee during the rep. Any advice on how I could make this better?

Why is parallette bars handstand much harder than floor handstand?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 02:43 AM PDT

I've never been filled with frustration on my bodyweight training journey than this. I spent months working on my floor handstand and after it became an easy hold. I moved to parallettes handstand and it was like I have never did a handstand in my life!!! Either falling this way or that way. Now I spent a week and no improvement. I know that the floor handstand rely on fingers and the other one on the wrist, but still! I feel much heavier now with the bars.

Hitting the gym without a gym. Fitness tips from a professional.

    link to article: https://lifeshack.io/your-lack-of-gym-time-during-lockdown-is-not-as-detrimental-as-you-think/

We're currently in the midst of one of the craziest periods of most of our lifetimes. The coronavirus pandemic has us all scrambling for a glimpse of certainty when it seems that there is very little of it to go around.

Along with the pandemic, many of us also don't have access to workout equipment at home, which makes exercising a whole new challenge. However, working out has never been a more important pillar in your routine. Not only does it keep you healthy, many studies show that exercising also improves your mindset as well as your productivity.

It may seem impossible, its actually quite easy to get a full, well-rounded workout in your living room using nothing more than your own bodyweight. I wrote an article here in which I write about some pretty impressive studies that have shown that increasing muscle mass and staying healthy is not hard with a bodyweight training regimen.

The beginning of my calisthenics journey

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 12:56 PM PDT

When I started working out 8 month ago I was in a really bad place. I had severe depression snd still have it but its getting better. I think a great deal has something to do with working out.

At the beginning I knew nearly nothing about working out and just did some Thenx workouts on youtube. At this point I couldn't do a single pullup but maybe 25 pushups (I'm doing kickboxing and had okish pushing strength).

Then as I got more into it I started watching more and more youtube (fitnessFAQ, Dominik Sky, etc) and learned more and more sbout training and how the body works. I still have a lot to learn but I think I'm fairly knowledgeable by now.

I started taking training more seriousely around november last year when I first started working on my frontlever. I could barely hold the tucked one at all.

At christmas I got an indoor pullup bar and an attached dip station with it. I started getting really serious at this point. I did 6 days a week for 2h a day minimum. In january I got my rings and I absolutely love them. They are a 30€ gym.

I stopped doing frontlever work for a while and focused on weighted pullups. This week I decided to test my strength and tried doing frontlever stuff again. When I stopped I was at advance tuck. I tried it at it went fine. Then I tried one legged front lever and to my surprise I could hold it for a few seconds.

    https://youtu.be/gOzyrH9Dync Front lever one leg

That's one part why I love calisthenics so much. It's so satisfying to be able to withstand gravity.

This post doesn't have a point really. I just wanted to let you know how much this means to me and for my mental health.

Absolutely zero equipment, need ideas for back exercises.

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 12:42 PM PDT

Sorry if this had been asked, If anyone can direct me to a post that already discussed this i would appreciate that.

I have no access to the gym, no equipment at my house besides one single 30lb dumbell. I've found a solution to most muscle groups, but I just can't think of anything for my back

    One handed workouts

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 12:38 PM PDT

I broke my left hand and won't be able to lift anything with that hand for about 6 months is there anything I can do to still get a workout? Will I just have shrimp arms? I tried doing a one arm push-up and just fell on my face is there anything else I can do?

    Mounting extra long pull-up bar

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 11:51 AM PDT

I was looking to mount a pull up bar on my porch and the only option is two wood beams 8 feet apart. I was planning on getting a steel pipe cut and mounting it between the two beams. Does anyone have any recommendations on the best way to mount it?

No Gym? No Problem! Maintaining Muscle with Bodyweight Fitness and Science

At the end of the day, anyone and everyone can and should make an effort to maintain their muscle during these times. Muscle is the organ of longevity.

Here's a video I put together that will help you maintain as much muscle as possible during a prolonged training break and/or to make the most of bodyweight training at home when access to a gym is limited.

I discuss fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle recommendations that are supported by some of the best and latest scientific literature. My background is in Exercise Physiology and Psychology and I am currently pursuing a Nutrition MSed.

NOTE: Some of you may be unfamiliar with a few of the concepts I describe in this video. If that's the case, feel free to DM me to inquire, but leaving a comment would be even better as I'm sure other people will have similar questions 👍🏽

Need a exercise replacement for one of my push ups

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 01:10 AM PDT

First, sorry for my broken English, I'm french so here's that

So I typically do 3 types of push ups

    The classic ones

Push ups with my arms set wider than usual

And push ups with my hands against each other, when I lower both my hands touch the solar plexus

The thing is that for the later, and old injury as resurfaced and it hurt realy bad. And I would like to know if there is a replacement exercise I can do that work with the muscle group.

Thanks in advance sorry if I did not make much sense
