Lost ten pounds and my confidence is slowly coming back 25F 5’4” SW:208 CW:188 GW: 128 Posted: 19 Mar 2020 07:12 PM PDT I've been in this group for about a month and this is sort of my introductory post. So I've lost ten pounds since I've started counting calories near the end of February and I've noticed I'm dancing more and my size 14 pants have started to fall down. I lost nearly 50 pounds back in 2015 due to an ED and I gained it and 20 more pounds throughout my past unhealthy relationship. My new boyfriend, (nine months on Sunday) attributes this group to helping him get through a lot of his weight loss and suggested I join. Through this group and his help I'm really excited to get healthy and not have such a toxic relationship with food. I do however see my ED tendencies coming back and I'm worried I'm gonna fall back into that black hole. I want to be able to lose this weight and keep it off for good. [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Mar 2020 03:29 PM PDT 20F; SW:220 CW:160 GW:130 I've been running casually for years (even when I was obese) but I didn't start improving and seeing results until I also learned about nutrition and CICO. I officially started loosing weight in July of 2019, and now I'm down 60lbs. Being a healthier weight has not only made me feel better In general, but it has also let me run faster and longer than I ever could before. This time last year I could only run 1 or 2 miles without stopping to walk. Now I'm running for over an hour and a half straight and it feels great. It's ironic how I started running as a means to get in shape, but now I feel like I'm getting in shape so that I can run more. I'm excited that I have a new hobby that also helps me reach my health and fitness goals. I can't recommend running/walking enough to anybody thinking about trying it. It feels really hard at first but once you start getting better at it it gets fun. It's inexpensive, self explanatory, and it's something you can do at any skill level and on your own schedule. Also as long as the weather isn't awful, I can still work out while my gym is closed :) [link] [comments]
1. I am changing my life today Posted: 19 Mar 2020 11:06 PM PDT I am sick and tired of being lazy and overweight. I always break promises to myself and others. My life is drastically changing because of the virus, so I will make something good come out of it by losing weight. My plan right now is to try intermittent fasting and only eat from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. I also want to exercise or move somehow for 30 minutes a day. Lastly, I want to be in bed at 10:30 and rise at 7:30. I will focus on these three habits during quarantine and hopefully come out a healthier person. I am going to post regularly to keep myself accountable and not be on reddit otherwise. [link] [comments]
| Stuck in quarantine? View this as an opportunity to hone in on weight loss Posted: 19 Mar 2020 06:40 AM PDT With life undeniably (and perhaps infuriatingly) slowing down, this is an opportunity to really focus on weight loss. Whether you're just starting out, in the middle of your journey, or struggling to lose those pesky last few pounds, think of quarantine as a time to:
This is it! We got this! Stay healthy and sane everyone. [link] [comments] |
Remember to adjust your activity level! Posted: 19 Mar 2020 11:30 PM PDT Many people are out of work currently, if not stuck at home entirely, which means that they are likely going to be more sedentary than normal. People often overestimate their activity level, which leads their trackers to overestimate the amount of calories they can eat in order to still lose weight. This is going to be more of a challenge for you if your daily routine has changed. Make sure you adjust for the decrease in activity! Yes, it's going to suck being stuck at home, bored, and hungry, but there is no reason for you to not be able to make progress during this time. Be conscious and honest with yourself about what you're doing, so you can continue to be successful. [link] [comments]
| Why I love quarantine, I lost 11 pounds! Posted: 20 Mar 2020 01:59 AM PDT I actually really enjoy quarantine, but maybe it's different where you live because I live in the Netherlands. We're still allowed to go outside etc. but schools are closed. My weight has been a really big struggle for me, I was 165lbs and a little but overweight. I could lose 6 lbs and then my weight would go up to 165lbs again, it was so demotivating. Then suddenly, I stepped on the scale and I'd lost more weight than usual. I was 158lbs! I wasn't astily in the morning. I don't have to make homework after school, because we only need to prepare for exams. I don't have classes, just the possibility to ask questions about the subject. I'm so productive now, my house is clean and I actually finish all my to do's. I wasn't hopeful because I expected to go up to 165 again. But this morning I weighed myself again and I'm 154lbs! This is my lowest weight in probably a year. I'm so happy, having more time to take care of myself has actually paid off, I finally don't feel like a failure anymore. Of course the coronavirus has caused many bad situations, but for me personally it has helped my somewhat. For anyone who can't seem to lose weight: It finally worked for me, so you'll get there too! | Caloric restriction, intense exercise, coronavirus and immune system function Posted: 19 Mar 2020 08:15 PM PDT I've been reading a bit online, and while I understand that long term caloric restriction may increase life expectancy, caloric restriction (long or short term) may weaken the immune system. While the risk may be acceptable for some that are at a very unhealthy weight, maybe it isn't worth it for those merely overweight. Has anyone considered this and have you changed your behavior, goals, or weight loss timeline as a result, particularly with the coronavirus risk? Why I'm asking: 5'11 male that has gone from 175 to 160 over the past 3 months (previous high 235 many years ago). I'm closing in on abdominal definition, but it'll probably take another month. I'm at a healthy weight now and the last 5 pounds will be the hardest weight I've ever lost. Not sure if I'm just making an excuse because the going is getting tough, or if this is a legit concern as the coronavirus picks up steam in the US. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Mar 2020 03:56 AM PDT 90lbs down and 20 to go. I can't believe the end is near... when you have a significant amount of weight to lose, your GW can feel so unattainable but trust me, STICK WITH IT. Due to the madness that is going on in the world right now, I am working from home for the foreseeable future. My country has estimated things will begin to improve in 12 weeks or so (hopefully but we will see), I plan to make the most of this time. I own a treadmill, stationary bike and weights. I use these a lot already but sometimes I wouldn't get home from work late and would go directly to bed, now I have so much more free time to really focus on my weight loss. My TDEE at sedentary is 1700... I am going to eat 1200 calories a day, intermittent fasting, cycle for 90-120 minutes daily, lift 3-4 times a week for 20 minutes. Here's hoping these 12 weeks go by fast! [link] [comments]
| Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Friday, 20 March 2020? Start here! Posted: 20 Mar 2020 03:25 AM PDT Today is your Day 1? Welcome to r/Loseit! So you aren't sure of how to start? Don't worry! "How do I get started?" is our most asked question. r/Loseit has helped our users lose over 1,000,000 recorded pounds and these are the steps that we've found most useful for getting started. Why you're overweightOur bodies are amazing (yes, yours too!). In order to survive before supermarkets, we had to be able to store energy to get us through lean times, we store this energy as adipose fat tissue. If you put more energy into your body than it needs, it stores it, for (potential) later use. When you put in less than it needs, it uses the stored energy. The more energy you have stored, the more overweight you are. The trick is to get your body to use the stored energy, which can only be done if you give it less energy than it needs, consistently. Before You StartThe very first step is calculating your calorie needs. You can do that HERE. This will give you an approximation of your calorie needs for the day. The next step is to figure how quickly you want to lose the fat. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of fat per week you will need to consume 500 calories less than your TDEE (daily calorie needs from the link above). 750 calories less will result in 1.5 pounds and 1000 calories is an aggressive 2 pounds per week. TrackingHere is where it begins to resemble work. The most efficient way to lose the weight you desire is to track your calorie intake. This has gotten much simpler over the years and today it can be done right from your smartphone or computer. r/loseit recommends an app like MyFitnessPal, Loseit! (unaffiliated), or Cronometer. Create an account and be honest with it about your current stats, activities, and goals. This is your tracker and no one else needs to see it so don't cheat the numbers. You'll find large user created databases that make logging and tracking your food and drinks easy with just the tap of the screen or the push of a button. We also highly recommend the use of a digital kitchen scale for accuracy. Knowing how much of what you're eating is more important than what you're eating. Why? This may explain it. Creating Your DeficitHow do you create a deficit? This is up to you. r/loseit has a few recommendations but ultimately that decision is yours. There is no perfect diet for everyone. There is a perfect diet for you and you can create it. You can eat less of exactly what you eat now. If you like pizza you can have pizza. Have 2 slices instead of 4. You can try lower calorie replacements for calorie dense foods. Some of the communities favorites are cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash in place of their more calorie rich cousins. If it appeals to you an entire dietary change like Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian. The most important thing to remember is that this selection of foods works for you. Sustainability is the key to long term weight management success. If you hate what you're eating you won't stick to it. ExerciseIs NOT mandatory. You can lose fat and create a deficit through diet alone. There is no requirement of exercise to lose weight. It has it's own benefits though. You will burn extra calories. Exercise is shown to be beneficial to mental health and creates an endorphin rush as well. It makes people feel awesome and has been linked to higher rates of long term success when physical activity is included in lifestyle changes. Crawl, Walk, RunIt can seem like one needs to make a 180 degree course correction to find success. That isn't necessarily true. Many of our users find that creating small initial changes that build a foundation allows them to progress forward in even, sustained, increments. AcceptanceYou will struggle. We have all struggled. This is natural. There is no tip or trick to get through this though. We encourage you to recognize why you are struggling and forgive yourself for whatever reason that may be. If you overindulged at your last meal that is ok. You can resolve to make the next meal better. Do not let the pursuit of perfect get in the way of progress. We don't need perfect. We just want better. Additional resourcesNow you're ready to do this. Here are more details, that may help you refine your plan.

If you're healthy and able, donate blood! It even burns calories Posted: 19 Mar 2020 11:11 PM PDT In the US, and likely elsewhere, there is a shortage of blood in hospitals. If you're healthy and meet all the eligibility requirements, you should look up the closest donation event near you and donate (US: https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/find-drive)! saves lives and it's a way to contribute to general well being. Plus, as a fun bonus, it burns 650 calories and has other health benefits (https://www.stmaryskc.com/News/2017/January/Health-benefits-of-donating-blood.aspx) Even during this Covid time, you can still leave your house to donate as it's considered an essential activity! So burn a little extra calories and go donate if you can :) I was really excited to learn about the health benefits of donating blood and just had to share, sorry if this isn't the right forum, I just thought others here would be interested too [link] [comments]
Okay to go over recommended protein by a bit? Posted: 20 Mar 2020 02:59 AM PDT Hey everyone! I recently started to count calories again and I was planning my meals for the next couple of days and noticed a pretty common trend. My Fitness Pal set me up at daily goals of 176g carbs, 47g fat, and 71g of protein. As an example, for the meals I have logged Saturday I'm left over with +31g carbs, +12g fats, and -9g protein. I'm trying to be more active but in no way am I at a point where I need extra protein. I was also planning to fall back on some tuna/crackers if I got hungry (I have enough calories left over to fit). I heard extra protein can affect your kidneys but they didn't really say how much extra. Should I be concerned with the small amount I go over or is it only a worry if it's excessive? It's mostly from animal sources but I do have a couple of plant sources too. [link] [comments]
Are you on quarantine or self-isolation? I've compiled some resources for you! Posted: 19 Mar 2020 11:07 AM PDT I noticed a lot of "I can't exercise at home" and "It's hard to have access to healthy foods right now" posts. Just wanted to share some resources for you: EXERCISE NerdFitness Bodyweight Workout for Beginners 30 Minute Hip Hop Tabata (no equipment) Low Impact Cardio (36 minutes, no equipment) 30 Minute Indoor Power Walk (bonus French Bulldog) There are literally TONS of free, no-equipment workout videos online. FOOD I went to the grocery store twice yesterday (2 different stores) and the selection was abysmal to say the least. Here are some things to stock up on top help you get the right nutrients - if you can find them. Obviously these aren't all perfect for weight loss - but it's better than just buying Lays potato chips. :) Beans Canned or frozen Veggies Oatmeal (the real kind, not instant which might have added sugar) High fiber cereals (watch the sugar) Canned or frozen fruit Protein bars (these were surprisingly well-stocked in my area - watch sugar content though) Granola Nuts Any whole grains you can find (crackers, pasta, breads) Don't forget that breads can be frozen to last longer. Lean meats, if you aren't vegetarian. Soups (preferably with veggies in them, low sodium if you can find it - I love Progresso Low Sodium Tomato and Basil soup with whole grain crackers) FRIENDS WITH BED For those of us that suffer from BED Binge Eating Disorder, having more food in the house ... and being isolated with that food for a long period of time is especially difficult. If you have a friend with BED reach out to them and offer to be their accountability buddy. [link] [comments]
I'm in a deficit, weight goes up [help] Posted: 20 Mar 2020 04:14 AM PDT I know this question has been asked a thousand times, and every time I commented on those questions, I confidently said the same thing: You can't gain on a deficit, either your calculations are horribly wrong or it's water. Now that it's me though, I suddenly doubt everything. I'm F18, 5'4 currently 145 lbs. My TDEE is ~ 1700 and the last few days I've consistently eaten 1200, 1000 or sometimes even 900 calories (You know, quarantine and all that stuff). Ofc it's possible I might have not calculated 100 % correctly, but it is impossible that is so much more to justify the weight gain. Over the past three days I gained a whole pound! Now, on Monday I started a new excercise program, which went like this: M: 20 min Bodyweight Upper Body T: 20 min Bodyweight Lower Body W: 20 min Bodyweight Upper Body T: Rest bc my thighs were not cooperatinh F: 30 min Bodyweight Lower Body I know that it is possible to gain water weight after starting a new excercise routine, but I'm finding it hard to believe in this case, since it's really not that much excercise. I'm a complete beginner, but still. What is your opinion? [link] [comments]
Am I'm eating too little protein ? According to all the researches i did. Posted: 20 Mar 2020 03:58 AM PDT It's a long post, but i really need your help. i've been thinking bout this for too long. Hi guys. I'm new to all these habits of calculating macro and micro and all that. I'm a 78kg Asian male, with a lil chubby body, for ab 3 years or so, for the past 1 year i've been wanting to improve my body physique, been trying to lose like 5kg of fat, been doing gym, running, and lately i dropped hitting the gym and started to do bodyweight fitness, due to the whole Corona virus thing, but mainly bcos it fits my mental better. As y'all know, in losing weight nutrition is essential, some even says more important than the workout part so i've been looking to changing, or improving my overall eating. A lot of research had been done, and suprisingly different sources brought up different result for me. Mainly in how much protein i should chow down. According to the online fitness gurus, hours of browsing bodybuilding sites, buffed guys at the gyms, reddit average bodybuilding dudes and all the nutrition calculators, i should be eating 172gr of protein, daily. But as an Asian dude who lives with his parent this amount is enormous, considering 100gr of lean chicken breast only have like 28gr of protein, even 100g of beef only serves 22gr or so. Because we Asian dont eat that much meat daily, instead we have a special love for white rice and all the carbs-rich foods, i went to a nutritionist and she recommended me to take 62gr protein daily and that's enough already. All of this resulted in me eating not enough protein (right now my best day only have like 70gr pro), and not enough calories (since i didnt take more carbs) while trying to eat the right way (or so i presume). This post is getting too long, so i'll get right to the point. Am i eating to little protein to build some good muscle and lose fat? If so how can i improve it, protein shakes would be like my last resort(it's kinda pricey here). I really want to get this out of my system. i can try to do 120gr protein daily, but no where near 172, this has been bugging me for ever. Sorry for any kinds of misunderstanding or wrong tone in my English writing. And the long post. [link] [comments]
I think I crossed the line and am developing an eating disorder Posted: 19 Mar 2020 04:56 PM PDT Well I wanted to lose some weight and decided to exercise (around 45 min) and count calories. To lose weight I would have to eat 1700 daily but I can't even get past 1300 most of the time. Every night I weigh myself and every night I weigh 0.45 to 0.10 kg ( Or 0.99 to 0.22 pounds). I wear the same clothing but it still dropps very quickly. I've lost interest in food and have been eating very little. I don't feel hungry even when my stomach is grumbling and I feel full really quickly. I feel like my appetite (which is usually big) just vanished. Is this the beginning of an eating disorder? If so how do I stop? Info: F(13). Was 63kg or 138 lbs after 1-2 weeks 59 kg or 130 lbs [link] [comments]
Depression and Losing Weight [UPDATE] Posted: 19 Mar 2020 02:38 PM PDT Thank you for all the kind suggestions I received to help me stay motivated. I did figure out a little system for losing weight and staying motivated. For my personal situation, I have a lot of weight to lose. Like a lot. 185lbs a lot, to be a healthy weight for my height. Today though, I weighed in at 298.6lbs, the first time I've been under 300lbs in over two years! My system is a very small visual one. I created a progress bar. I fill it up as I lose weight until I get to my goal! It's working so far for motivating me as I can VISIBLY see my progress and how close I am to my next milestone. Thank you everyone for being so supportive, this subreddit is an amazing community and being a part of it has made my weight loss not feel so lonely. ❤️ [link] [comments]

I once liked being fat, but now.... Posted: 19 Mar 2020 08:41 AM PDT There was a time that i actually enjoyed being a big guy. Id often make jokes about it, and i genuinely didnt give a damn about my unhealthy lifestyle. However, recently ive noticed that im gaining even more weight. Im out of breath constantly, ive had more asthma attacks than normal in the last few months, my favorite clothes dont fit as well, im struggling to clean up after #2, but by far the worst is i can no longer see my manhood. I wholeheartedly believe that my this recent round of weight gain is partially attributed to my recent alcoholism. I was robbed over a year ago, and since right after that i started drinking A LOT. Its putting a strain on my relationship with my wife, even though she says she understands what ive been dealing with. I need to enact a healthier lifestyle, but the problem is, i genuinely have no motivation to eat better or work out. Sure after i do workout i feel nice, but then i wont go back to the gym for 2-3 months. I need serious help, and i dont know where to turn. Therapy hasnt helped in the past, i lack self control when eating or drinking, and i cannot stand vegan foods. Im honestly at a point where im scared now. [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Mar 2020 05:48 PM PDT So I logged on mfp for a week and learned that I really don't eat the same everyday. I had some days at 1200 cal and other days at 2600 cal. So I am changing my setting to lose one lb a week and before I focus on anything else I need to eat more regularly. So I just going to eat within my calorie goal and make it work. Then once I get used to that I will try to start focusing on the items I am eating. Hopefully in this I will build a healthier lifestyle. I also have been off my thyroid meds for about a year and I am trying to make a doctor appointment to get back on them to help balance my body and generally just being on them helps me lose weight. If anyone has more advice please let me know. [link] [comments]
Worried about losing weight whilst back home indefinitely Posted: 19 Mar 2020 03:58 PM PDT Context: I'm a UK student living in a city, and my university has moved to online learning in light of coronavirus. This weekend, I'll be going back home to my tiny seaside village – both because I'm asthmatic (and am worried I won't be able to look after myself if I get sick) and because none of us are quite sure how things will play out, and my family want me home in case we go on lockdown soon. I've actually found the last few days off of uni to be okay for healthy habits; I've been doing a short 15-minute workout in my room each morning, and going for a walk midday. So far, I've managed to stick to decent sized meals as well. But when I go home, I'm worried about maintaining the habits (both with eating and exercise) that I've been keeping on top of for the last couple of months. I'll be staying with my Nan, without the space or time alone to do inside workouts, and I know I'm going to get bored real quick of the limited places I can walk compared to the city. I'm likely going to have less control over my meals, too, which is going to be a struggle in counting calories (especially whilst I'm moving much less than I would be otherwise). Also, I currently weigh myself each day to keep me on track (I'm aware of fluctuation; I use FitBit to track my weight and focus on the general trend). I'm not going to have access to a scale for an indefinite amount of time, and I'm worried about neglecting everything and erasing the progress I've made so far. [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Mar 2020 05:58 AM PDT Has anyone else noticed that foods you crave are no longer as tasty as you remember them being?? I've been doing CICO at 1200 calories for almost 6 months now and have been eating pretty healthily. I've lost nearly 60 pounds. However every now and then I'll give in to bad cravings, and eat those fried greasy foods but I'm starting to find that it almost NEVER tastes as good as I remember it? Today I had a sausage and egg biscuit with hash browns from Hardee's after walking past my free biscuit coupon for 2 weeks constantly thinking about it. Before dieting I ate biscuits pretty regularly and enjoyed them, but today it was disappointing. I could have probably eaten a frozen biscuit from Walmart and it would have tasted better. But I've noticed that all my "bad" foods are like this now. Even sauces! I've stayed away from mayo, honey mustard, ketchup all that and they're not good to me anymore either. Y'all I used AVOCADO as a mayo replacement and LOVED it. Has any one else experienced this? Or have my taste buds just changed lol [link] [comments]
