    Handstand improvement

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 08:09 AM PDT

Hey Guys, I've been doing handstand training for about 4 months now and I can stay up to 30 seconds in the position I think my form is decent but not perfect. How can I improve it? I don't have a good place at home to try chest to wall and I honestly got a bit of fear, too. My second little problem is the kick up I can't get in a good position every time. It has improved but I need up to 5 tries to get in a good position. Are there effective methods to train the kickup other than the trial and error method? Thanks for your answers, stay save and healthy💪

Looking for good exercises with a partner

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 06:00 AM PDT

Hi there, i've been doing the RR for about 1.5 years now and have really enjoyed my journey so far. However, i would like my girlfriend to join so we can exercise together. I've tried to get her into BWF in the past but motivation has always been a big problem for her She already tried Move and the RR.

So now i would like to put together a workout where we do some stuff together but which is still "efficient" so that i can substitute it on some days for the RR. But she does not have a lot of strength, for example she can't do an unassisted pushup. Examples of exercises I think fit well:

    -Leg Throws

-Assisted Nordic Curls where you sit on the others ankles and hold the resistance band

So i guess I'm looking for exercises which are easily customizable in difficulty so she is able to do them while i can still improve myself. And we should be doing them together.

    Thanks a lot people!

    MURPH Workout

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 11:11 AM PDT

    Howdy BWF,

Here I am. I have never really done bodyweight workouts prior to yesterday. I have always been in a gym with weights. I heard about the MURPH, and holy. I like to think that I am in decent shape, and it truly kicked my ass. As it was my first time and being realistic, I decided to cut the reps in half. I completed the work out in 30m43s. I had zero strategy going into this. I did my first mile, then ALL (50) the pull-ups, ALL (100) the pushups, ALL (150) the squats, then finished with the final mile. For ppl that have done this before, what's the best approach? I feel like I could knock a bunch of time off. I plan on doing it 3-5x a week. Looking forward to hearing your guys' responses.

    Cheers

What type of program should I use to get better at pullups?

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 06:28 AM PDT

6'3 175lbs. Right now I typically do like 4/5 sets of 6ish pullups with 25 pounds added. And can do like 11 strict with ten pounds added. I am bulking a little bit. Before bulking I was at around 19 semi sloppy form pullups bodyweight.

Given where I'm at, should I stick with linear progression and maybe add in GTG? Or should I do something like 5/3/1 or the russian fighter program?

(My goals are evenly spread across looking bigger, being stronger, and being better at pullups as a skill.)

    Working Up To Planche

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 12:12 AM PDT

Hey people from r/bodyweightfitness. I've been training for about a year, and I would like to start learning more "flashy" skills. After a couple of months of training I was able to partially master the handstand and L-sit, but for the planche: Zero progress. Many people recommend starting with frogstands, so I started doing that. Balancing is not an issue anymore, but I don't get how people are able to elevate their hips. I need to put my legs on my elbows or I can't do it. What should I do? Any recomendations for progressing at least a bit quicker? Thanks guys!

Single bar dips vs pike pushups

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 01:11 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I don't have access to dip bars but have access to a pull-up bar. Should I do single bar dips or pike pushups for the dip progression?

I am leaning towards single bar dips but please enlighten me. Thanks a lot

Edit: or should I buy rings?

Anyone else getting really annoyed with these at home workouts that almost refuse to acknowledge calisthenic exercises and downplay bodyweight training?

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 08:36 AM PDT

Don't want to write an essay (even though probably will) and I know this is probably coming from a bit of anger from being stuck in my house all day but seeing these at home workouts are so frustrating to watch.

I have yet to see a proper home workout where these big typical gym athletes talk about the handstand pushup (and progressions such as pike press), advanced pushup variations like the psuedo planche pushup (which are killer for the shoulders), banded exercises to make things that much harder, explosive squats, bulgarian squats etc. etc. I could go on.

I love jeff nippard and he has amazing content and I'm not saying his home workout video is bad, its just not good enough considering the sheer amount of information out there. Especially the RR here that is FREE. I just saw scott hermans video and its not terrible either, but its just youtubers trying to replicate typical gym exercises but improvising with household items in place of dumbbells. You don't need a youtube video to tell you this lol

The point i'm making is not that bodyweight fitness is the best but just like how many in this community adopt weight lifting aspects in our workouts, it seems that calisthenic exercises are still looked down upon by many people as easy, can't build muscle or just not worth it. Why do a psuedo planche pushup when I could get some improvised weights and do a shoulder press? I am not saying we shouldn't improvise with items as weights we have at home but the point is people are still so ignorant to bodyweight exercises and that it isn't the lesser to weight lifting, its just another form of working out and in some cases its better.

If you want to maintain your muscle or at least strength as a weight lifter then get a pullup bar and some rings. That's all you need. none of these buckets or water bottle nonsense OR even the workouts I see that are more or less just HIT and conditioning work, that isn't calisthenics and is the biggest misconception

I’ve tried Nike Training Club body weight workouts and they don’t work for some injuries I have. Any ideas for putting together some good options?

    Posted: 21 Mar 2020 10:28 PM PDT

I have a history of foot pain from certain high impact exercises, back pain from some things and I get dizzy if I stand up too fast (like with burpees). I need a body weight workout as my gym has closed (like so many others). Is there a good app / site to help design a program for me that won't aggravate my injuries?

I'm ok with paying for something if it works for me.

    My home gym setup

    Posted: 21 Mar 2020 12:41 PM PDT

I just wanted to share my home gym setup. I have a heavy bag stand where I basically do everything.

What I do is hang some towels on top of the heavy bag stand where I can hang myself from and do pullups and tucked front lever rows, I can do it without the towel but I heard that towel pullups are great for your forearms. I also put a rope attached to the bottom of the stand with some foam that came with the punching bag stand and I do nordic curls on there.

For the rest of the exercises I use the floor or a chair, so basically I've got everything covered, I got pullups, handstand pushups (on a wall), front lever rows, planche pushups (on the floor), nordic curls, a chair for step-ups and a floor for calf raises. I'm really proud of myself for finding where to do all this exercises because a year ago I didn't knew where I could do pullups so I didn't train, but then I discovered I can just hang in my Punching bag stand.

My goal is to someday have an outdoor gym with rings and bouldering walls, but for now this is just perfect. How does your setup looks like?
