| Posted: 30 Sep 2020 10:26 AM PDT I'm preparing for the Murph challenge in the middle of November. Pullups are my main concern but I'd love to be able to do the whole workout with a vest on. I'm doing a training plan I found online but I'm having to use a band right now for the pullups. I'm wondering if I supplement my training day with pullups throughout the day anytime I think of it if that will help me progress faster or actually hinder my progress. Essentially, hitting like 100 pullups a day... bad or good. [link] [comments] |
| Body weight and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Posted: 30 Sep 2020 03:44 AM PDT Hi Folks! Reposting this to be more in lines with the rules of the sub! So I'm 5'10, 213.5lbs, Male and my current routine is 3 days on 4 days off of bodyweight and kettlebells and dumbbells depends on the week ( One week I'll do three workouts of one type). Now I want to develop a body more suited to grappling in particular Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. My current aim is to get down to about 175lbs as I've a lot of excess fat to lose. So I'm wondering what I can do to help that. There's an emphasis on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu on a very strong core (John Danaher believes core strength is absolutely key to the sport.). Some of the recommended exercises I've seen are Toe to Bar which I don't currently have access to a bar and Bear Crawls with an emphasis of connecting Knee to the Elbow, and crucifix rolls. Is there any other exercises that could be added to these using the Dumbbells and Kettlebells and my body weight so I could train daily to improve my total core strength? Thanks in advance! | Pullup progression advice (5x5 to 3-4x10) Posted: 29 Sep 2020 07:27 PM PDT 23M/74kg (163lbs) I actually have no idea what optimal pullup progression looks like. Am I supposed to go to failure each set? Do low reps of weighted pullups? Do a lot of volume work? Currently, I'm able to do 5x5 or 10, 7, 6 with relative ease, but I haven't been able to hit 3x10. I haven't tried adding weight yet. I don't care about max reps in a single set because I'm not going for any record and I'm not training for a boot camp. I also don't care about pullups enough to do them multiple times in a day or more than twice a week. I just use it for my lats and overall pulling strength, but it's not a huge priority of mine. So, I'm looking to improve the way I do my actual working sets (maybe adding weight, maybe going to failure each set, maybe doing 10x3 instead of 3x10 etc etc) so I can ultimately do 3-4x10 with ease. Any tips? PS. I find rest time affects my pullups quite a bit. If I rest for 3 mins, I'm able to do 5x5+AMRAP quite easily. But if I rest for 2 mins, just 5x5 gets quite difficult. PPS. I know it's weird of me to say I don't care enough about pullups on a bodyweight fitness sub, but I initially wanted to post this to r/fitness which is more generic, but they wouldn't let me. The reason pullups are just "another exercise" for me is because I'm currently prioritizing pressing (bench, OHP) in this training block. No offense to any calisthenics dudes out there haha [link] [comments] |
| What is the world record for the weighted pull up and dip? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 09:12 AM PDT I googled it and it said around 120 kgs for the dips but I remember watching a Russian guy dipping a lot more weight but I can't seem to find it. [link] [comments] |
| Any recommendations for monthly challenges or tests? Posted: 29 Sep 2020 03:33 PM PDT I was hoping there might be a "challenge" or something similar someone might be able to recommend for the month of October. My quarantine fitness is becoming very boring and I want to switch it up a bit. I've always included body weight fitness into my routine and am hoping for something that might challenge someone that is on the "advanced" side. I unfortunately don't have access to a pull up bar but do have paralettes. So, anyone got anything for me? [link] [comments] |
| 5 vs 6 Day Workout Schedule for Fat Loss Posted: 26 Sep 2020 02:53 PM PDT NOTE: TITLE SHOULD SAY 5 DAY WORKOUT SCHEDULE SUGGESTIONS Long time lurker, first time poster. So I originally posted this in r/fitness, but figured it would be better suited here; it is also taking some time to get my post approved in r/fitness since I have such a low karma. I'm a 5'8" M currently sitting at 164/17% BF. My current workout schedule looks like this 80-90% of the time: M/W/F - 1 Hour bodyweight, full body workout + 1 HR Moderate-High intensity cardio after T/TH - 1 HR 30 MIN Moderate-High intensity cardio + 30 MIN - Moderate-High intensity Cardio in morning S/S - Rest (Occasionally I'll do a 2/3 on + 1 off + 2/3 on; either way it is 5 days a week) All in all, 6-7 hours of cardio with 3 hours of bodyweight strength training. This schedule isn't hard for me but it does take an inordinate amount of time, and even with work from home I don't end up eating dinner until 8:30-9 PM because I have to wake up so early and work so late to stay on top of things. As far as weight loss and fat loss, this has been working well for me. From January to July, I went from 232 to 185 on diet alone; I added in this exercise schedule mid-July and have gotten down to aforementioned weight. My ultimate question is this: Will switching to a schedule where I'm only doing 30 minutes of cardio after my strength training on my full body workout days, but moving the other 30 minutes to a different part of the day, affect my fat loss in any positive, negative, or negligible way? I'm looking to get to 150 @ 14-15% body fat and then working on body re-composition from there. The new schedule would likely still be a 5 day a week schedule that looks something like this: Monday - 1 Hour bodyweight, full body workout + 30 MIN Moderate-High intensity cardio after + 30 Min Moderate-High intensity cardio in morning Tuesday - 1 HR 30 MIN Moderate-High intensity cardio Wednesday - 1 Hour bodyweight, full body workout + 30 MIN Moderate-High intensity cardio after + 30 Min Moderate-High intensity cardio in morning Thursday - 1 HR 30 MIN Moderate-High intensity cardio Friday - 1 Hour bodyweight, full body workout + 30 MIN Moderate-High intensity cardio after + 30 min moderate-high intensity cardio in morning Saturday/Sunday - Rest (or mid-week rest w/Saturday as 5th exercise day), maybe adding 1 hour of cardio on Saturday depending on my schedule that weekend So I'm still doing the same in terms of hours/effort in exercise (6 - 7 hours of cardio + 3 hours of strength), but moving 30 minutes of my 1 hour cardio sessions to the mornings of my full-body workout days. I'm just curious if this will affect fat loss in any way; I've seen several conflicting studies ranging from positive if they are more than 6 hours apart to reducing lean muscle building for doing cardio and strength on the same day, to it making virtually no difference. For reference, I'm not trying to become a super shredded beast. I just want to be in good cardiovascular condition and be lean with a good physique. Thanks for all your opinions in advance!
